SVA Side Louvres

Has anyone put a GD through SVA without the side louvres fitted, and if so were the edges of the recess ok on minimum radius?

If the louvres are fitted does the rubber trim need to be fitted round the outside as well as the vertical(ish) exposed edges?

How would you recommend fixing the rubber edges, such that if they unfortunately fell off there would be no marks left on the nice shiny stainless?

Best regards

Glyn

hi glyn
can't you just flush them for the test with some stiff cardboard and gaffer tape?

Re: SVA Side Louvres

Shrewsbury SVA

I ran rubber strips around the louvre edges, but did not stick on. This was a problem. When I removed the louvres to get around this the top edge of the body recess failed as it didn't meet the minimum radius. Ended up sticking rubber edging to the louvres - passed OK with that.

For info other non-radiused/hard edges that I had to cover over were on the RAID steering wheel, outer seat-harness clasps (smoething to do with it being an external fitting), instrument panel lower edge on passenger side (even though foam & leather covered - spoke to GD - they weren't at all convinced by this and Nottingham SVA have no problems with it), edge of panel at top of passenger footwell (covering wiper motor) & clock adjusting wheel.

Cheers

Colin

Re: SVA Side Louvres

Mine failed on dash lower edge, again it was GD spec and i had to rip it apart and add more foam.

It passed with the side louvres not fitted. (I'd tried using C section trim to radius them and failed as nothing would stick rubber to S/S.)

Re: SVA Side Louvres

Dash lower edge - and I thought I was the only one. The SVA inspector spent some time with this and wouldn't budge his opinion. Used some foam pipe lagging cut to fit the lower edge, had some spare leather to cover it and stuck it in place. Didn't look half bad if I do say so.

I only had super-glue to hand for louvre rubber edging so it'll be there for a while now.

Stuck my rubber edging to the SS louvres with black silicon They "fell off" easily and any residue simple rubs off with the fingers :thumb:

Glyn
I used rubber U shapped strip and held in place with two blobs of superglue on the back edge only, came off easily.
Both vertical and horizontal edges - but not the outside.
