Underslung exhaust system

Hi Guys

Can you tell me if the GD Cobra is the only version that can be fitted with an underslung exhaust? (noise considerations!!).

Thanks

Martin

Sumo, Crendon, GD and AK can have underslungs.

Martin

Dax, and some others, will advise against it but I've made underslung exhausts for my De Dion using fabricated "box section" tube to give greater ground clearance. I prefer the cleaner lines without side pipes, and didn't fancy 100+dB of exhaust note 500mm from my right ear.

Re: Underslung exhaust system

As far as I'm aware with the Sumo (does this apply to other models?) having an underslung system greatly reduces your ground clearance and makes going over small bumps very difficult. We were planning to have an underslung system as per the original cars but decided not to after finding this out. Side exits also sound a lot better!

Not all of them, the GD system is tucked up within a recess, therefore ground clearance isn't a problem, well, less of a problem.

Hi

I did send a mail to Dax and they said that their cars were not suited to underslung exhausts. I suppose anything is possible if you do it yourself but I would rather have a kit that accomodated the underslung type rather than trying to fabricate one. After all in this rather large learning curve I will have enough to think about!!

thanks for all comments as always

Martin

Re: Underslung exhaust system

Ditto Crendon - at no point is the exhaust the lowest thing on the car. Only thing I have ever grounded was the fuel tank support straps - and that was by going through a particularly nasty depression at 130. (yes officer, I meant 1.30 pm).
