There may be hope for 15 inch tyres!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

To all you fellow 15 inchers.
Nothing against the rest of you but(lets open that can of worms again)17 inch wheels are for use as coffee tables! Here we go again.

Anyway, now I have got you going. for those of us that want 235 60 15 tyres in a V rating things have been getting difficult for the S3 and Turbo Esprit boys as well and a guy called Bob Chapman is trying to get a major manufacturer(Goodyear?) to start re moulding them. I run Lotus Goodyears on mine and they are great. He has approached a manufacturer and needs support to get them made, so join me in emailing him on teamchapman@aol.com with as many supporting letters as possible. If we can help him help us and gett as many car manufacturers involved as well there could be light at the end of the drag stip. I will also post on the american cobra site to try and get them involved. The more letters the better, Simon:7 :7 :7 :7 :+

RE: There may be hope for 15 inch tyres!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

That would be good if they could also start 255 60 15 as well. I intend to go to 16" wheels as there is a problem finding tyres for 15" wheels. In my opinion, 17" wheels 'overwheel' the car. I prefer to go with the balloon look for a more authentic feel of the car. YES, I KNOW there is a handling deficiency using these tyres, but I don't intend using them on any track.

RE: There may be hope for 15 inch tyres!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Simon,

This appears to be good news!
Guess most of us who are useing the 15inchers face the same problem.

Will copy / translate the thread for the german Cobra Club as I do know that plenty of guys here share the problem that 15ers will either be off-road style tires or/and will have a low speed index.
Hope that this will result in even more supporting mails to Bob to help him get them made!

Guess dimensions most commonly used are
215/60/15
235/60/15
255/60/15
275/60/15

Will the S3 and Turbo Esprit only accept 235/60/15 or is there a chance that 255´s and 275´s are potentially going to be produced?

Carsten

All I know is what I have read in Classic car mag this month. An email to the Lotus guy may give us some more info. Maybe if we all try emailing him for more info it may help. I will try over weekend, Simon

Apparently older Aston Martin V8's use 255/60/15 tyres aswell. Perhaps we should be lobbying their website too - if they have one!
Cheers

RE: There may be hope for 15 inch tyres!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Super, I am also a 15 incher and quite rightly would like to stay with them, I have currently 215/60/15 front and 235/60/15 rear but on a 9.5inch rim! so would obviously wish to purchase wider rubber 'V' rated AND E marked pref for sva. At the moment have Avon Turbospeed 'V' rated (Jag?) and E marked and unused so would become available for sale.
If there is anything I can do to help to support the re manufacturing then I will.

Graham

Does any one not make them at all?? inc USA? Cooper cobra etc
