Body symetry

Recently there were a number of people discussing/ranting over the symetry of Cobra body shells.
Here's a picture of an AC CRS. If you look carefully you will see than the stripes and roll bars do not line up, nor does the stripe and the windscreen centre bracket.

Just thought I'd open a new can of worms.

BTW just because I have posted the picture does not mean that I am fond of the interior styling.

Re: Body symetry

Dave - bingo!

No hand - produced car will be symmetrical. Ask Aston Martin owners.

So many replica bodies were "splashed" from original cars that we have a legacy of bodies that are, frankly, manky.

Take the early Pilgirm shells - look at the position of the front wheel arches left to right. At least 1 1/2" different, and Pilgirm owners have been abusing tie rods ever since, trying to centre wheels on the LHS.

Kirkham ally shells ARE symmetrical - but only because they digitised one half of an original, then mirrored it for the other half.

Some replica GRP shells are reasonably symmetrical, not sure why, but AK and Crendon come to mind.

Hi Rodders.
If the stripes followed the centres between all the fixings they would look like the aproach to a Zebra crossing.

Re: Body symetry

my company works for aston, land rover, jag, Ford and Merecedes F1 etc etc. Trust me they have production tolerances (big time). If a guy in a garage can be close, lets not be hypercritical.
