Cobra's in the rain

I know most of us try not to take our Cobra's out in the rain for obvious reasons but lets say you get caught out in a pretty heavy shower and you don't have a hard top or a softtop. You switch on the wipers, keep a good distance from the vehicle in front and try not to accelerate too hard. The water builds on the road, the spray gets worse, and you take the decision to slow down because you can't see squat through the windscreen because the wipers lift off at anything over 50mph. You pull over into the slow lane. Problem is the 18 wheelers start to pass you and throw up huge waves of spray. So you accelerate to avoid the 18 wheelers but you use too much gas...whoops...wont do that again in a hurry. But now you cant see again cos the wipers wont work properly. What do you do?

Try Clearsafe, a water repellant windscreen wipe that uses nanotechnology to repel the water. Manufacturer guarantees it improves visibility by 50% and lasts for 3 months. Cost around £8-10 on the internet or from those 'gaget' magazines which find their way through your letterbox.

My question is has anyone tried this stuff out and is it worth buying. I know from experience that driving a Cobra in the wet is pretty tricky and demands total concentration. This product might just give us all a helping hand.

Andrew
I know Mr Purple AK used rain X (same stuff just more expensive), he didn't like it.
I have it and have used it on my crash helmets and liked it's rejection of water qualities. It's a personal thing.

Rain x from Halfords or any good motor accessory shop.

Brilliant, been using it for a couple of years, on the inside of the Cobra screen.

Re: Cobra's in the rain

My wipers are quite effective on the Cob... haven't driven in heavy rain though. Might get some of this RainX stuff for the back window of the BMW though

Re: Cobra's in the rain

Main problem with driving a Cob in heavy rain is not the front side of the windscreen, but the inside.

Water whips around and the inside of the screen quickly becomes opaque- a chamois leather is needed to keep it clean, unless anyone has fitted wipers to both sides?

Correct, that's why I only use Rain X on the inside, the outside is no problem, especially with 3 wipers.

Bo**ocks Dave, I posted that without seeing your post, no debate, honest.

Re: Cobra's in the rain

I found a Chamois sponge pad held in the right hand works a treat. As Dave said I tried Rainex and it didn't work for me Maybe I applied it over some other cleaning agent that it didn't like. But it was an absolute nightmare. I think I managed to remove it on my winter screen out clean with Meths. But time will tell

Chris
You just like the feel of soft leather in your hand.

Mike
No offence but with the older eyes you need three wipers.

So that's two old buggers I've pi55ed off tonight.
