Starter Solenoid

Hello Guy's

I have been told that my starter solenoid has 'burnt out'...(even though it was quite new!!!!!)...and that a 'standard' 130 Amp unit will cost me £10 + vat.....or a 'heavy duty' 800Amp unit £45 + vat...I hope to change the starter to a high torque unit in the near future....question is.....i notice REAL STEEL sell their solenoids for £6.87....so does that mean i shall be wasting my money on a 'heavy duty ' unit??

PS..if anyone has a high torque starter that they want to sell to suit Ford 302!!

Cheers.Steve

Re: Starter Solenoid

Hi Steve,
I got my high torque, lightweight hi-performance starter motor from Racemettle( www.racemettleltd.co.uk ), a fantastic bit of kit, small enough that it can be fitted/ removed from my 302 without removing the exhaust manifold or the underslung exhaust. Bit pricey at £161 but well worth it.
(Model No. RAC 412)
Clive.

Re: Starter Solenoid

With a Ford SVO high torque starter you won't need a heavy duty solenoid as it doesn't switch the main feed anyway.

I had horrific hot cranking probs - the SVO starter is now brilliant, superfast cranking and I'm just using a standard lucas MG type solenoid. As Clive says - you won't believe how small and light these hi torque starters are.

The starter was £164.63 delivered from Real Steel

Re: Starter Solenoid

Steve,

I have a brand new, unused hi torque starter motor I don't need any more.
Sensible offer?

Simon
