God my arms !

Started on the "pit" last week.

Cut a hole in the concrete with a professional hole saw. 6 inches deep. Then used a jack hammer to break up the concrete. 8 inches thick with steel re-inforcing.... and it's a bl**dy detached garage on a modern housing estate... Go figure ???

Arms are killing me. Jack hammer weighed a tonne. All broke up now though. Now to remove the steel in the morning. Mini digger is arriving at about 3.00 in the afternoon. So, I'll be busy demolishing the garage and house and wall and whatever else get's in my way tomorrow afternoon. :7

RE: God my arms !

Ah-ha!
That concrete must have been laid according to the gospel of "What does more, does less". At least you know it won't crack up...
Is this the same estate where that guy that owned a tank used to live? Not far from the old Vickers factory?
Maybe someone specified the floor with such a vehicle in mind?!

Put plenty of SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Resin) in your new concrete. It works wonders for strength and durability of the concrete.
It looks like milk, smells like peppermint, but it's as expensive as synthetic engine oil.

Simon.

PS have you got into trouble for rattling all the ornaments off the shelves in the house with that jack hammer?

RE: God my arms !

Hi Simon. Thanks for the tip on the SBR. I'll make sure I ask for some when I get the stuff to mix it with.

I've not got into trouble about rattling the ornaments off the shelves but I have got into trouble for making such a noise.

Can't wait to play on the digger.

Vince - if only you had hired the left handed jackhammer. It would have been so much easier. Don't they have a mutants section in your local hire shop?

RE: God my arms !

Go figure???

Have you thought that they might have used so much concrete and steel for a reason?

I had a double garage built on my front lawn, ended up paying £3,000 more than estimate, because of ground conditions, i.e wet and more wet.

Have a look at the original planning for the site.

Hope everything goes OK Vince

RE: God my arms !

I know why now.

It's a bloody great raft because it's on the site of what looks like a pair of single garages.

When I dug down with the digger I came up against another wall. I got to the bottom of this wall only to find yet another concrete base. So that's another concrete base to get through. What a complete ****ard of a job. One of them that you wish you had never started.

Filled one big skip already. Looks like I need another 2 at least. The job is getting bigger by the day. However, resolve and determination are keywords of the day. It's the pit or me. Hope It's not me.

Oh and Wilf you little fat git, I did get a lefty jack hammer. Worked a treat. Bloomin heavy though. Looks like I need it again. That's after I get a submersible pump to pump all the water out. Blown the budget already. Looks like the wife and kids won't be getting any christmas presents again.

RE: God my arms !

Good God Vince, a garage is usually 8ft from floor to eaves, you did'nt look that tall when we met on the Motorway to warrant digging a pit that deep.

Oh and the first and last time I met Wilf, I don't remember him as being little or fat, a git and ugly maybe.

Merry Christmas.

Vince

Sounds like you`re having a few problems

Want to know an easy way to dig a hole without problems?

Answer - 2kg semtex

Big hole - no problem

Just a thought

Paul
