Toyota van

Nothing to do with Cobs but has anyone changed a cam belt on a 1998 Toyota Hiace 2.4 diesal van.Bloody thing broke today when getting it out the garage. Is there anything odd about them like timing up.Do they use the dowel type pins for timing or is it done another way.

Thanks

gareth

Re: Toyota van

Don't know about that engine ,but all Audi engines use pins to lock them up in the correct postion.

Re: Toyota van

I hope that the valves don't clash with pistons when the belt breaks.

That happens on most engines unfortunately. So you may need to change more than the belt.

Tell me about it
Still as long as I get to Le-mans and back ok and no problems in between I don't care

Graham,

can you PM me your number please mate.
It wasn't really running at the time as such I'd been cranking it over to start and the belt must have gone just as it fired so i'm hoping no valve damage
