final engine/trans combi

Well, finally sorted out the combi in the Dax, Big Block Ford (460 stroker) the C6 is built in texas(700 hp capability) the stroker kit is being balanced in Texas as we speak, 528 Ci,10-1 cr, Performer RPM manifold,850 Holley double pumper, solid cam/lifter with .600 lift, the heads are iron but big valves and fully ported/worked over, should have street manners but be a bit of an animal if unleashed, I have a redundant rebuilt 429 if anyone knows of a good home, should be finished this year!! Yeh, fuel tank is 23 gal approx! alloy('L' shaped) in the boot, fuel economy is obviously not going to be top of the list. dave

Re: final engine/trans combi

Just as an added bit of info, for anyone interested, due to the business of cam break in etc, I have a cam/lifter kit on the way from Cam research in Colorado, they offer a break in service($60) which is done on a machine so the parts can be fitted ready to rock, at least if there are problems on runup the motor can be closed down without worry. Re: final engine/trans combi

Hi Dave,

Thats one big lump!
IMHO I thought your carb size seemed a little small as I was advised to use a 750cfm double pumper with my 393 stroker so I the checked the 850cfm against your build specs on the CFM calculator on fordmuscle website & it confirmed what id thought.
I also checked with the fordmuscle forum & they are suggesting a 1050 Dominator instead.

Regards,
Martyn

Re: final engine/trans combi

Dave - those Ford 460s may be big old lumps, but they can make serious power for not too many £££s. Luck with it, can't wait to hear it rumble.

Re: final engine/trans combi

Hi Martyn/Wilf, yes the calcs may well come up with a bigger carb but all things being considered a 850 Holley will support over 700Hp dependant on combination, bearing in mind street use the carb should be fine, obviously once mobile a more accurate assessment can be made, the 460 makes 500 Hp with very little effort, yes its a lump but I wanted a Ford engine, I would estimate the motor will push out in the region of 540Hp, and of course there is the parasitic loss through the trans but with up to 600 ft/lb torque it should be fun!
