RE: Merry Christmas

Well, it’s not such a happy one this year. I drew the short straw and have to spend it working in “Downtown Lagos, Nigeria”.

Today is like any other working day (and I don't get paid any extra)!!!!!

The only consolation is that it is 30 degrees C outside (ha, now where is that swimming pool).

Merry Christmas to all.

RE: Merry Christmas

Rock Doc, want to swap places, I spent some good times in the Lagos Yacht Club and the Apapa Boat Club.

Used to live out near Badagri, in a little place called Agbara.

RE: Merry Christmas

Things have changed over the years. Am staying on V.I. at the moment and even that is a dangerous place. We have a ten o'clock curfew and there are daily carjackings!!! Going to and from the airport we drive bullet proof cars and wear flak jackets!!

Have a good Christmas.

RE: Merry Christmas

It wasn't that bad when we were there, but getting that way when I went back to visit some friends a couple of years ago.

RE: Merry Christmas

I have to agree with you. Are you there for Christmas or at home?

Last time I was here I had to fly down to PH. Came out of the airport to be greeted with a body in the middle of the road!!!!!

Went out for lunch yesterday and they served up salad along with the turkey (no gravy or roast pots even). Just not the same!!!

Happy New Year.

RE: Merry Christmas

At home , thankfully, first time to Warri via Lagos was in '72, just after the "troubles". Go infrequently now (thank the Lord)and only then if "caught and available".
Stupidest thing I ever done in Nigeria ?
1) Took a taxi from Warri to Lagos in '72. fell asleep on the way!!!
2) Drove to Benin from Warri to make overseas phone call (All Warri phones down at the time).... still waiting for connection.!!
3) Worked for Deminex..
Charlie.

Which one of the many troubles.

We went through 2 coups, one military handover and a counter coup.

Great fun!!!! Spent 4 1/2 years in PH and 4 1/2 years in Lagos, or rather outside Lagos.

RE: Merry Christmas

Robert,

Was that in '93/'94 as I got stuck on an offshore rig for 14 weeks (and swore I would never come back)!!!

P.S. The beefburger was a bit better than the Christmas lunch!!!
