registration paper work and crap DVLA!

hi,

My understanding is there are three forms I need to submit to get a jag based cob through SVA and registration.

SVA/1-Application to SVA
V55/5 - vehicle registration
V/1 - build up inspection report

I know I send the SVA form to Swansea to get the SVA inspection arranged.

My understanding from this web site is that the DVLA will need to inspect the car to make sure the build-up information on the V627/1 is correct and that its best to get this done before the SVA test to save time.

I cant phone the local office, its only possible to go through the DVLA call-centre (great!) . I phoned them
(a) in the hope that they would route me through to the local office so I could make some arrangements and
(b) to check whether the V55/5 and V627/1 should be sent off at the same time (as the V55/5 would be incomplete until after the SVA)

What I was told was that the local office will not even make an appointment to come out and inspect until AFTER the SVA and all the paperwork is in their hands and is complete. Also saying that if incomplete paperwork was submitted it would just be returned.

I cant phone the local office to even have a quick chat, the only thing I can do is stand in a queue wait my turn to speak to someone who will .... know nothing ... just fills me with a big sinking feeling!

Has anyone else who has registered recently had this problem?

Should I just send the V627/1 to the local office, with some sort of covering note?

As always all help greatly appreciated

Chris

PS:

At this point I was getting a bit pixxed off, so she gave me the VOSA phone number so I could double check ~ turns out to be the number of Disneyland Paris Hotels - what a useless WxxxER!

I live 2 miles from the Bristol DVLA, so i just drove up and queued.

The person i spoke to was brilliant. Took all my half complete paperwork, ticked the boxes i need to fill out, marked what i didn't, stamped the bits that were complete and handed it back ready to go.

Chris.
Sympathy. I had similar frustrating dealings with Swansea, Mainly a lack of sending me the forms after two requests. I rang the helpline and said that I needed to speak to my local office re registering a Kit Car. They took my number and the local office did ring me back within an hour. Worth a try Otherwise it's "Stand in Line" time. But even then, the local offices are a lot more switched on than Swansea

May be I should try again and get the DVLA to pass my number to the local office?

Worked for Me But there does seem to be a gross inconsistency in the service/knowledge/standards available from office to office

Presumably they have all of your paperwork, and you have waited over two weeks with a car passed SVA just for a inspector to come out and check it over!!

Trouble is once he has been out, you will then have to wait for them to send a registration document?

That sounds really awful, my sympathies.

Re: registration paper work and crap DVLA!

Chris

If I were you I`d send the 627 off to your local office and see what happens.I have 2 near me Northampton and Luton, Luton want sva pass before they`ll inspect and Northampton will inspect before sva, at least they have on both the occasions I`ve used them.Different offices seem to have their own ways .

The idiots at the Swansea call centre are about as helpfull as a kick in the ar*e .

Chris,

I drove up to the DVLA (in the cob, probably illegally!) and got all of the paperwork sorted and booked the inspection for a few days later.

Turned up (in the cob again , obviously) , bloke took a quick look under the bonnet to check the engine number (doesn't have one) Chassis number (currently written on with a pen!) then stamped the paperwork. I got the registration through the post 3 days later, although at that time with a 2 day old at home i had other things on my mind!

(Oh and make sure you get a good (colour if poss) copy of everything as you wont get some of it back)
