Cleaning up header ports / exhaust manifolds

Just replacing the header gaskets on my dax.

Any reason why I should not use those green scourer pads with some solvent to remove the old silicone & dirt from the header ports and manifild flanges?

Re: Cleaning up header ports / exhaust manifolds

No reason at all!
The best solvent for silicone is meths, scotchbrite and meths is what we used to use to clean silicone extruder dies.

Re: Cleaning up header ports / exhaust manifolds

Would those be the cardboard silicone gaskets produced at LeMans?

They might be I have not been in any major rush as it held up really well - Never blown once since. The only real problem was the bolts kept coming loose.

Thought I better get it sorted though as it would be embarrising turning up at Le Mans with the beer box still there. Having said that, we could have had a beer to toast Martins quality workmanship.

Finally got around to fitting some proper gaskets and replacing all the bolts for some decent allen headed stainless ones. Just finished one bank, will do the other one tomorrow after the GP.

Re: Cleaning up header ports / exhaust manifolds
