fuel filter position

Hi Guy's

Just a quick question, can some tell me if i should position a fuel filter before the mech pump to protect it, or is it okay to have an inline filter between the pump and carb.

Many thanks

Russ

Hi Russ, I would put the filter between the tank & the pump, this will filter out anything before it gets to the pump. If you like you could also put one after the pump too.
Clive.

Re: fuel filter position

I've put one each side of the pump, both in the boot area. The little clear plastic ones. I decided not to put the one after the pump in the engine bay as its just another opportunity for a leak and a fire in the engine bay.

Re: fuel filter position

What engine are you running?
If you're using a reasonably high performance engine, you'll need the larger plastic filters at least.

Re: fuel filter position

i'm going to be running a sbc 383 with around 500bhp, i was looking at using one of those filter king filters for V8's, and intend on mounting it in the engine bay some where.

Re: fuel filter position

I thought most filter kings have a pressure regulator in them so it would be pointless fitting it before the pump if this is the case with yours, I have fitted a filter before and after the pump just to be safe.

Re: fuel filter position

Hi,

We found that there is a handy space next to the diff, just in front and below the drive shaft - that is where we put our filter. Speedflow ( www.speedflow.co.uk ) do a couple of good filters for larger V8's....

This allowed it to be before the pump, out of harms way (the larger filters take up a lot of room in the engine bay). The pump we put next to the prop shaft, as is traditional on Dax's...
