Indicator repeaters and SVA

hi,

just a quick question. Do you have to have indicator repeaters to get through the SVA? I'd rather not have them if I can get away with it. I'm building a Sumo III.

Cheers,

John

Re: Indicator repeaters and SVA

I think to get the indicators viewable from the correct angles you need repeaters. Let me have a look in my SVA manual...

Re: Indicator repeaters and SVA

I have fitted tiny ones to the side of my car that I bought from a car performance shop. The hole for the wires was approx 3mm in dia and when it comes to being painted next year I will remove them as they are not required for SVA. They have a self adhesive backing and the jobs a good un!

Yes you do.

In theory it's possible to mount side repeators on a piece mesh in the side vent aperture for SVA, then aftwards decide it looks rubbish and replace it with 5 stainless vent viens, Hey presto, passed SVA and end up with side vents and no repeaters. Alledgedly I don't know loads of people who've done this

Re: Indicator repeaters and SVA

Hi John, yes you do need side repeaters for the SVA. If you fit them above the louvres you can remove them and cover the holes with "289/427 Powered by Ford/Chevy" badges.

Re: Indicator repeaters and SVA

Aren't they there for a reason? Isn't it better to get some that look OK and do a proper job?

Hi Robin I suppose it is all down to how authentic you want your car to be. If like me you are trying to create as close a replica as possible to a 1960's car then I wouldn't want them. Same applies to rocker switches, padded steering wheel, modern tail lights as per the SVA.
Clive.

Robin, I can see your point but given the length of the vehicle and the fact that the indicators front and rear prortrude about 2 inches from the front and rear panels( at least on my SVA compliant indicators) you have to be standing almost next door to my car not to see either the front or rear indicator flashing. The more flush fitting and smaller lights as favoured by other members however may not give the visibilty required.

Thus the side indicator is superfluous on my Cobra...........but is required by the letter of the SVA regs.

The cheap side indicator fixed in some mesh and then placed in the side air vents complies with the letter of the SVA and is easily removed afterwards.

Just like all the other SVA "fixes" we have to comply with..........who on here hasn't rushed home post SVA to put the chariot wheel pedestrian impalers called Halibrand spinners onto their vehicle........

Following this post it would just be my luck to knock over a partially sighted pedestrian who backs into my Cobra who then gets entangled in my spinners and gets dragged down the road being sliced into thin rashers by the extra sharp and slightly protdruding stainless steel side vents with each revolution of the wheel.........

Cheers,

Tony
