Ground clearance and ferries

I hoping to goto France in a few weeks when my Cobra build is complete via ferry or fast cat. How do Dax Cobras cope with the ramps etc. to get onto ferrys/fast cats due to the lack of ground clearance, especially the front aperture for the oil cooler?

Also do you really have to watch it on speed bumps etc?

Paul

Just take a bit of care mate. You ought to practise a bit and you'll soon get to know which ones are ok and which ones are exhaust ending.

I had about 3 inches of clearance with my underslungs just behind the front wheels which was a very vulnerable point but never had any major disasters.

Never had an oil cooler though. Keep your vision up, you'll be fine mate.

ps how very dare you go to France and not go to LM!

Hi - Took my Dax on the ferry with no problems - if you let them know that you concider it may be a problem - get them to load you last and assist by lifting each side on the front wheel arches.

Regards Clive

Re: Ground clearance and ferries

Paul used teh ferries many times. Let them know you have low ground clearance and they'll put you on teh lower deck so you don't have to do many ramps and also approach any at an oblique angle.

Re: Ground clearance and ferries

Never tried it, or indeed seen it on the ferries - I have however been on the ferries quite often and I would try and see if you can find out when the high and low tides are the day that you are travelling - if it is high or low tide those ramps can be quite steep and I would think that you may have problems. Probably worth checking with the ferry company

Re: Ground clearance and ferries

I've never had a problem yet, most ferries have rise and fall approach ramps, so the angle is never very steep.

As Nigel said, if you think there might be a problem, approach at an angle.

I've never had to ask to be put on the lower decks, these loading chaps just look at the cars and can see that there would be a problem getting them on the upper deck.

Yeah but Paul, just watch out for posts that stick out of the ground

My cob had no worries on the ferry few years back. Forgot to mention before.
