Data Protection!

Below is extract of an email I got in Friday.
Think this might interest you. Tried it myself and it broght up my address although not my phone number as I'm X-directory maybe.
John.

Sorry guys, this website bring up all your personal information – I’m even on there, so pls take a look and follow instructions below. Pls pass to everyone you know.

I believe this contravenes the DPA 1998….

Hello All…

Please check this website… To search for a person is on the right hand side of the screen, half way down put in your name and town.

I have found a few people I know on this so it does work.

I'm not sure if it really bothers you but you might want to check!

Billy

Dear All

It will pay to look yourself up and keep circulating this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A website has been brought to my attention that may pose a risk. The website is www.b4usearch.com and by clicking on 'People' and typing in an individuals name and area it brings up their home address, phone number, details of other members in the household, details of neighbours in the same street and also directions to your home.

I would advise that if your details can be accessed via this website, that you have them removed. To do this send an email to privacy@b4u.co.uk and your request should be removed within 21 days if they are not removed within this time you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office by sending an email to compliance@ico.gsi.gov.uk

Re: Data Protection!

What a useful site - I've discoverd two things in a few minutes:-

The address of a bloke who absconded and owes me a lot of money - and,
my mate Barry - his real first name is Barrymore!

There nothing there that a very thorough search at the town hall electoral register wouldn't unearth - I notice any ex directory phones aren't shown.

Re: Data Protection!

I totally take your point, but it is not all bad. I moved house 18mths ago and they still have my old address and my lodger who left 2 or 3 years ago. I think it is from an old electoral register. There is an opt-out box when you fill in your register for election that is supposed to stop this happening

Surley not another unpoliced government loop hole

Re: Data Protection!

I don't think this contravenes any data protection law. As far as I can see it's just the electoral roll. If you want to get really scared try looking at www.192.com and the programs they sell.
