the runt's master plan..

lots of variables bouncing round the brain since the realisation that,at long last, the time is nigh.. a slot reserved with master builder Dave Brookes on his mini production line, and reading voratiously/ studying old photos; anything Cobra.. runt likes: Dax Tojeiro, Ford Windsor, 15 inch Hallibrands, Aston filler cap, Richfield seats, black roll hoop( and I don't like the shape of the Dax hoops).. hope it will all come together without too much hassle for long-suffering D.B., build set to commence July.

Re: the runt's master plan..

Its nice to see someone has a clearly defined plan for their build.

I too had a picture in my mind as to what my cobra should and would look like. After a build period of 18 months these ideas are still there but are coming together nicely.

I have thought about changing some things after admiring others cobras but something inside kept steering me back to the original concept.

The only change is I have run out of money, so the paint job and full trim is going to have to wait until Jan 07 when the piggy bank is full as Im not going to compromise now.

So this year is going to be the year of the gel coat and rattly inside I should imagine as I will have no carpets, leather etc to deaden the noise.

Good luck with your build and has Dave given you a timescale for completion yet?

HI Runt and welcome to the nut house good to see you are someone who knows exactly what you are after, Only comment would be are you aware of the limited tyres available that will fit 15" rims you get a much better choice with 16" and they are a good compromise on the looks front compared to the 17"

Markieboy, don't worry about a bit of rattle and hum.. I'm sure Ken Miles didn't when he drove the 427 prototype! Congratulate yourself on what you have achieved in 18 mths; I haven't that talent which is why I'm relying on D.B.
I think Dave normally reckons 3-4 mths?
Paul.

Sorry for delay replying lads, just finished work( it's the curse of the drinking classes)..Martin, yep, that 16 inch option may happen, the old Goodyear Eagles did have a reputation for aquaplaning, but I see John Kerr of Crendon likes a new 15 inch Kuhmo tyre, have to have a look at that. Who supplied your 351w if I may ask, what is approx output ?
Although I know what I 'm after, this is a new area for me and I know Dave will shed light on stuff I'm not au fai with, I've just got this picture of John Woolfe's old black 427 cars, and hope to replicate! Can't afford a 427 big block though.
Paul.

Re: the runt's master plan..

18 months from scratch. Well done. Mine was taken off the road after a minor fire caused the starter to engage at 4000rpm. Sounded like a jet engine. Due to work, money, kids, house moves etc...... been off road for nearly six years.

Once builders get on with new garage I can collect all the bits and get her going.

Re: the runt's master plan..

Hi Paul, bought an old cutout engine from Adricar2 and then rebuilt it my self so not much use if Dave is building the car for you. Good luck with your project though.

Re: the runt's master plan..

So now it's all coming together.. chassis at DB's shop, body at the painters, Windsor being assembled by Mike Huddart.. DB is engineering some 'specially commissioned' features so I'll feel like the runt in 'High Plains Drifter' when Eastwood makes him sheriff..
If you like bright blue paint, magnolia leather and 'bling', you won't like this one..

Paul/runt.

Re: the runt's master plan..

Paul/Runt - 16" wheels is definitely the way to go. Still look "period", but you can get proper speed rated tyres for that size, albeit limited choice. 15" really gives you problems. For outright performance, of course, 17" works, but pesonally I don't like the look (too "Max Power" for an old f*rt like me).

The tyre you mention that John Kerr likes is, I think, actually a 16" Kumho, and they don't import it yet! (at least, not in the szes I wanted).

Luck with your car - why not get Brooksy onto it now, so that you can be mobile for the Spring? Bet he could fit it in if you asked nicely.
