Power steering columns

I know this has been discussed before but now that a few dax power steering set ups have been sold/fitted, can anyone comment on how they are compared to not having it. Is bump steer reduced etc and any of the usual benefits that hydraulics offer come with epas?

I am interested in fitting power steering to my Ram and don't yet want to muck around with hydraulic systems unless I really have to.

I can only afford to get a second hand corsa B column if they are the best, but I have noticed that corsa C ones look similar but have height adjustment. Are the electronics the same and would dax sell their piggyback electronics to make it work?

Importantly, does anyone have dimensions of the corsa column?

Thankyou

Re: Power steering columns

hi
i bought one from an mgf ...they all pretty look /work the same ....(mine has rake adjustment too...)
and from my viewpoint i suspect all made by the same manufacturer....supplying the 'big boys'.puntos are the same too!
much the same as car sunroofs...one on my old rover is identical to one on my 'pug'!!!
door mirrors are the same inside too -just different shells!
-don't 'arf vary in price though !!
as regards 'the DAX electronics ''conversion'' ...i too asked if a piggyback adapter was available.from DAX.....3 months and still waiting for an email to say 'yes ! we can ''do you'' for that....
so don't hold your breath....i am hoping some boffin electronics wizkid will do something like has happened with megaspark/megasquirt etc....one day perhaps??.................
NEIL

Neil,
did you buy the mgf one for your Ram? If so, did it work?

Re: Power steering columns

yes it was ,but as i say no easy way to integrate it without a box 'o' tricks to adapt it into the system, the one i bought didnt have the 'ecu' bit either but it should be possible to use 'as is' ,given the correct circuits.....there's basically a SERVO (like in a model radio control)so you need a feedback resistor(present)and the motor (also present)then a cicuit to apply power to the motor, when needed to 'power it 'as req.d ,
as i said an awful lot like used in a model radio control system......
but as i haven't ,as yet seen what is necessary or required
neil......

Re: Power steering columns

If you decide on the Corsa EPAS; contact www.clarkmotorsport net for a plug and play device to make Corsa ECU work. He charges £150 for the unit.

Re: Power steering columns

Tasmin, that is super news! Thanks.

Neil, I'll let you know how it goes. I need to find a corsa rack now, but would still love to know if the Corsa C ones would fit. Clarke motorsport may help I guess!

Re: Power steering columns

Hi Bitsilly.
From (A fading) memory I think the luxury of power steering will pale into insignificance if you compare it to how stiff the clutch is in most RAMs when using American V8s..............If you are using an American V8 that is.
