Slightly o/t. V8 in a TR6

Has anybody heard of this being done?
I know there are some US sites with ford and chevy v8's in a TR6.
But has anyone heard of a Rover lump in a TR6?
A nice smooth 4.6 litre aluminium rover engine in the classic Tr6 shape would be a cracking car don't you think?

Yes - I have heard of these conversions in the US, but they have to do a great deal of strengthening to the chassis/shells! Not the most torsionally rigid car ever produced.

Hi Wilf,

I think you're right, but with a bit of beefing up, and with a not too high state of tune (say 250bhp) it'd be a load of fun.

Re: Slightly o/t. V8 in a TR6

I suspect you are right, but the problem is simple:

The "market" for TR6's values nicely restored, unmolested (i.e. original) cars. And those values are mnot very high - a very nice TR can be had for £6 to £8K.
So if you put more than a few £££s into a "special, you are very likely to end up with an unsellable car.

That is always the problem with modifying cars away from the original.

Its like all those E type Jags in the states with 350 chevys in and Stags in the UK with RV8's, better cars froma driver/power/reliability viewpoint, but hard to sell, plus youve spent good money converting it.
I always fancied a lotus twink or even RV8 if it'd fit in a (stock looking) Anglia, street sleeper as they call em in the states!!

A guy I sprint with has a twink Anglia, all the Milton kit on it, but he keeps it standard colour. Only thing making it look "special" from the outside are a set of minilites. Nice car, plus he is an old boy with big bushy beard, looks like your Grandad, then blows you into the weeds ! very cool.

A colleague of mine put a Discovery engine in a TR6, or possibly a Stag... I presume that is a Rover derived V8 (can't imagine him putting a diesel in!!)

I really fancied it for the traffic lights GP, with an old trilby on to enhance the camouflage!!

Guy I used to work with on building sites in '74 drove an 'Angle box', 1760 crossflow, twin 40 dcoe's, secondaries seemed to come in every time 'Radar Love' came on 8-track. He was quite mad and most people refused to get in that car..crazy days.
Paul.

Re: Slightly o/t. V8 in a TR6

Had a Triumph 2.5Pi estate some years back with the totally unreliable Lucas fuel injection, biined the straight 6, and did the 'STAG' RV8 conversion on it, as under the bonnet they are identical.
Had a big old L88 scoop on the bonnet to cover the hole made for the SU's, but managed to keep the auto box, just had a new input shaft fitted to match the RV8.
Went a whole lot better afterwards, and following an engineers inspection my insurance went down by £20 into the bargain.
