GDs with Ford Engines ? (ohh ..err !!?)

Hi folks - I posted this in the tech section , but only got a couple of replies - I'm guessing that there are probably a few more Ford-powered GDs out there? So, I'd be very interested to know if the 'F' word applies to your car !!

Pete.

Re: GDs with Ford Engines ? (ohh ..err !!?)

Hi Shane - I knew that somebody would have a 351W ! Did you have any fitting issues or were any bits of the installation a bit tight? Would be interested to know details of manifolds & clutch/gearbox setup. Also, is the sump or deck height greater than that of the Chevy when installed in the GD ? Finally, I'm assuming that GD fittied the chassis with the engine mounts & that you didn't need to sort these yourself?

Cheers in advance,
Pete.

Re: GDs with Ford Engines ? (ohh ..err !!?)

Hi Pete,

It fitted no probs, GD did the mounts I am using a WCT5 (how long for is a ???) at the moment which GD'S mounts did not fit but it was no probs to fab my own up with a couple off Ford Tranny engine mounting bobbins.
I will have an issue with the air filter to bonnet clearance as I have Stealth manifold but GD's racing scoop should sort that out.
Manifolds are GD but fitting is awkward cos of clearance with the bends out of the flange but if you use small hexagon headed bolts put them in the holes BEFORE FITTING IT then tighten up about 2 flats (if you try to do them up on one bolt to quikly they bind) a time on them all at the same time it goes on ok.
I also drilled mine and fitted lock wire.
Deck hight I can't tell you compared to a chevy.
As for the sump I am using a moded big wing trapdoor type sump which does not seem lower than others I have looked at.
