Adrain Flux You!

Probably naivety on my part and they have me bang to rights but it doesn’t mean I have to be happy about it so I am going to have a rant.

I rang Flux late March early April and told them the car was going to AKs for finishing and SVA’ing so I would probably need insurance but what could they advise.

Sure you need insurance, the quote was OK, I paid, job done, the small print/talk/psycho babble went over my head and that brings me too yesterday.

I get a letter to say the insurance will be void if they do not receive Reg Number within 7 days, details of immobiliser and speedo reading. I rang and explained that the car was taking longer than planned and I would send the details when available. At this point it becomes apparent that the insurance will be void and non-refundable if the car is not registered within 30 days of taking out the insurance, It’s the law they tell me!!.

Where did I go wrong? Apparently I should have asked Flux for build insurance until we had definatelty/200%/absolutely got the car registered. Shouldn’t they have told me this when I explained that I was sending the car away for finishing? Being the experts I would have expected this to be the case. They didn’t but they are covered, rather than advising you to wait they tell you the car should be registered within thirty days, check the tapes I say as I don’t remember this. They call back 4 hours later and say, “yup, it’s on the tape”, not that you get the chance to check/hear it your self.

So basically I’m stuffed, if I cancel it, it’s non refundable £300 down the lav. The only concession they have made is that if we leave it until the 25th May (that would be breaking the law then!! See above), they will allow me to freeze the policy and then restart it when the car does hit the road, cost? £120 of the original policy price.

And yes, they got me, I’m wrong, they are right. BUT, as ‘specialists’ would you not have expected to them to say, “wait a minute Sir, is it a nailed on certainty, given the industry, that you are going to pass SVA? Because if not you should have build insurance until that time comes”

Which, incidentally, is not Free as advertised, that doesn’t cover Cobras, it’s £150.

Well that’s it rant over! Learn from my mistakes if you approaching this situation yourself.

Warren

Re: Adrain Flux You!

Warren with the figure you have quoted for the premium I am guessing that Adrian Flux have placed the policy with Chaucer as mine is through them.
At the end of the day AF are only brokers, I would ring the actual insurance company and explain the situation and the delay with AK and they may well be more reasonable about it. Worth a try if nothing else.
Chaucer are based in Whitstable, Kent, I only have claims hotline numbers so probably not any use to you.

Re: Adrain Flux You!

Not that it's much use to you, but this might help others preparing to get in the same boat.

My cob wasn't insured at all (except under the house insurance as a 'pile of bits under the stairs') until the body was fitted to the chassis, the engine was running and we were off to NZ for several weeks.

At that point we decided it was time to insure, but knew it would not be finished for another few months, but also knew we'd need a few days road cover for MOT, SVA, DVLA visit, errm 'brake bedding in' trips etc at that time.

Backford Bloor gave me a build up policy for something like 40% of the OTR cost, charged £10 or £25 (i can't remember which) for a 2 week covernote for road use when required and then deducted all of the above from the total insurance cost when i converted the policy to full road cover.

Really can't fault them.

Re: Adrain Flux You!

This is a pretty appalling piece of work on behalf of Flux based on the facts as you present them. Let it stand as a warning for others.

You told them of your circumstances, I think you have a pretty good case to press for a refund. They did NOT use their best endeavours to provide you with the cover you needed, and that is what brokers are supposed to do - ask relevant questions and only then recommend a product.

Tell them straight that the outcome will be posted here, and in letters to the editors of all kit car magazines, posted on Pistonheads etc.

Don't take this lying down - we consumers have POWER!

Re: Adrain Flux You!

As Wilf says let this be a warning to others. If you do a search there are plenty of people that will tell you to keep well away from FUX sorry FLUX.

Re: Adrain Flux You!

It has been well documented on here that AF can be problematic when a claim is made and the subject of agreed value comes up.
Any search on here will usually show bad news, yet people still keep going to them because..........They are cheaper....Or so it would seem.
AF are usually around £100 per year cheaper that the likes of Backford Bloor but you then have to fit a thatcham approved alarm system that BB do not require. So what started out to seem like a bargain turns out to be more expensive.
I'm sorry the original poster has had problems but it would seem that AF are cheap for a reason and in this case you get what you pay for, or don't get what you don't pay for!
The only reason for choosing AF over BB should be because you don't have a garage and no other.
Let this serve as a warning to others who opt for the "Free lunch".

F...........Flux tried to pull a fast one on me by charging the same for the car being on the road when it was clearly off the road in terminal pieces!! £450+

Went to Backfords and they sorted things there and then. A little over £100.

Will never deal with Flux again because of the attitude!! Many people are very happy with their service and products, but for me, thats it.
