Essex Area CRC?

Hi,

Having previously owned a few nice replica's, and sadly had to sell them for varying reasons , I've just succumbed to my weakness and purchased another..... oh, and been divorced as well - great deal!

A few years back the 'local' club meetings were held in the Nag's Head (I think) on the outskirts of Brentwood near the M25/A12 roundabout.

Can anyone tell me if the club still exists and where / when they meet?

Thanks,
Mark

RE: Essex Area CRC?

Looks like I found my answer using the search engine..... they met last week! Easy to find when you actually think about it!

Cheers,
Mark

RE: Essex Area CRC?

Welcome back Mark,

I will answer this on behalf of Graham Dorrell (Essex area rep) , who I know is getting his computer upgraded at present so will be out of contact here for a while (I'm sure he won't mind)

We do still meet up on a regular basis (usually every weekend in the summer), but no longer at the Nag's Head - they wouldn't serve us drinks without a meal (don't think they wanted us there ;( )

We currently meet at the Headley Arms in Warley every third Sunday of the month, although I can't see this lasting due to lack of parking (any suggestions??). Your best bet is to give Graham a call (his number is in the mag).

I notice you are in Shenfield, so are very close to me (I'm in Billericay), you will find quite a lot of us locally (particularly in the summer!!).

See you soon.

RE: Essex Area CRC?

Thanks for your reply. I'll have to pop over to Billericay if it ever stops raining. Any excuse for a spin!

As for alternative meeting places.... has Brentwood area been deemed preferable due to it's fairly central location? If yes, then I'll have to do the rounds again and think of possibilities. How many cars usually turn up in the summer?

Maybe the Rose and Crown, which is nearly opposite Shenfield High School on the London Road, would be worth considering. It's a fairly simple pub that has an OK size car park. Plus it's easy to get to from the M25 / A12.

Personally I'd prefer to go somewhere a little further afield and be able to get out of first gear before reaching the car park.... in fact, I think I could almost freewheel there from my home.

Cheers,
Mark

RE: Essex Area CRC?

Mark,

The sun is out NOW but NEVER at weekends, or so it seems.

Yes, Brentwood seems a popular location (I think??) being central as you say, and in the summer we can get as many as 20 cars, but usually about ten or so.

I know the Rose and Crown opposite the school (my cousin went there, - the school, not the pub!!), which we have been to once a couple of years ago, but we did dominate the car park a bit, but not as much as one of our trips up to meet the Norfolk/Suffolk lot at a little pub in Groton (Suffolk), but thats another story ( }( ).

I agree with you, I'd much rather go for a drive for a meet - fourth and fifth not been used recently on local club meets (but then the Cobra hasn't been used much recently anyway).

In the summer evenings, on a Wednesday night at the D!ck Turpin on the A127, is a good meet.... Hot Rods, Yanks, Classics (and Cobras of course!) worth a visit.

RE: Essex Area CRC?

I haven't tried the D!ck Turpin on a Wednesday. I was aware there were meets but never got round to going with the other cars I owned. When do Wednesday eve's down there start to be popular..... I presume that's very much weather driven.

I notice from your profile that you own a Dax. Have you owned it long and what's the lump, gearbox, etc?

RE: Essex Area CRC?

Mark,

The D!ck Turpin starts getting busy around about easter time from memory - yes it is weather driven (isn't everything involving cars??).

Had my Dax on the road now for just over three years, currently running a 350ci Chevy with Edelbrock RPM heads, Edelbrock RPM inlet, roller cam, MSD ignition and Tremec 'box, but hopefully soon to be upgrading to a pretty serious stroker motor - can never have enough horsepower.... }( }( :7
