VIN number

Is there a minimum number of characters, used as a chassis number, that would be acceptable to the DVLA as a VIN?

I'm finishing a 2nd hand GD and have been told that the chassis number is GD427052 (quite an old one). Do I have enough characters to satisfy the DVLA? My insurance broker (B&B) accepted it but thought it too short.

Could someone who has recently registered a GD, or any other kit, please let me know how many characters you've used.

Many thanks,
Phil

Re: VIN number

I'm sure there is normally 17 characters in a vin. I know that's the number of characters Dax use. The lady at preston DVLA told me that there is normally 17 in a kit car.

Re: VIN number

The number has to be made up of 17 characters ( numbers and letters ) you have a good starting point just add the completion date or some other made up number to make up the 17 digits. HTH

Re: VIN number

Thanks guys,

Looks like I'm a few numbers short.... I think I'll copy Tony and use my date of birth.

Cheers
Phil
