You have worried me about my 2.88 PowerLok

:drive: As a novice GD 427 owner I was having great fun until a day at Goodwood made my diff scream like a banshee on drive and grumble like John Prescott on overrun. It was already nagging like the indoor partner, though. The nice man at Wards says its CW & P and can build a replacement, so far so good.

However, its a 2.88 PowerLok and all the messages in this forum say that thats too tall a ratio for a five speed.

I have a 6.2 350 CSB stroker with Edelbrok performer package built by Brian at Repower etc. and nominally 400BHP with a five speed box (don't know what), goes well but not shattering.

What sage advice can anyone give me about taking this opportunity to try a 3.07 or 3.31 so that I can melt some of that nice new tarmac they laid at Goodwood over the winter?

Re: You have worried me about my 2.88 PowerLok

The 3.31 goes nicely witha 5 speeder, but it would be useful to know exactly what gearbox you have before commenting further?

If it is a tremec 3550 TKO, many will tell you that with a 3.31 or above, 1st runs out too damn fast, and 5th is still too tall for really pulling hard (but makes a nice motorway gear) - unless it is the version (sometimes known as the road race version) with the less tall 0.8 something 5th.

I personally find the low first useful for driving in traffic - it will take off at tickover and no throttle no problem. But for really fast starts it is pretty useless.

without knowing the gearbox ..3.07 , i have 3.31 now, but as I have upgraded the gearbox the 3.07 diff is better (on paper ).

Re: You have worried me about my 2.88 PowerLok

Clive,

I have underslung 2.5" stainless standard GD set up. For Goodwood I replaced the tailpipes with a pair of Sound Barrier additional mufflers (Demon Tweeks, £47 each - see link below) on 10" steel extension pipes. That just clears the rear of the car. Decibel measurement was 96 for a declared rev limit of 4,200 on a 98 db limit day.

Although I over revved the declared limit the driveby monitoring kit didn't pick up any problems.

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/produc...&pcode=CCLSBR2

Sounds better with them off, though!

brian.
