RE: CHEVY vs FORD....?.

Kev

Are you trying to cause a conflict of opinions again?

Here is my UNbiased view, having never owned or worked on a Chevy, but once owned a 351 powered Ford Torino a long time ago.

Reading in between the squabbles on the forum it seems that both are a similar weight, both are similar power in standard form and both are very tunable.

The main difference I can see in tuning is the cost difference (Chevy being cheaper because on the whole there are more tuning parts available this side of the pond than the Ford.

No doubt someone will prove me wrong and call me all sorts of names etc. But this is my view from reading comments on this forum, elsewhere on the net and magazines etc.

Just a thought

Paul

You don`t have to be mental to build a kitcar - but it definitely helps.

RE: CHEVY vs FORD....?.

Oh, and one more thing - one has the distributor at the front, the other at the back

Some people seem to find that a highly critical point in engine design and manufacture

RE: CHEVY vs FORD....?.

Thank you paul.....ABSOLUTLY NOT trying to cause any conflict between the two,In anyway shape or form.....I`m mearly trying to get some info
as to whether one has any advantage over the other. As i stated i really did wonder if it was JUST PREFERANCE.....I have had to date nothing to really do with either engine..I`m therefore ignorant to which ones (if any)is to avoid.....?.

RE: CHEVY vs FORD....?.

Hi Kev I think Paul has just about hit the nail on the head x( x( Only thing I might not fully agree on is that whilst speaking to Uncle Wilf this weekend, he says that the difference with availability in not really an issue any more.

Its just a case of do you want to fit the original make of engine or the one that it used to thrash on the race circuit ?? }( }( }( }(

RE: CHEVY vs FORD....?.

Kev

Personally I think it is mainly a question of personal preference.
Lets face it, both engines have been around for a lot of years so they have proved their pedigree.
If one was better than the other(power, strength, reliability etc) then the popularity of one would have died off years ago.
Like I said, I think it is only the pricing of spares/tuning parts which makes the Chevy more popular to some.
Also, trying to build a "near" authentic cobra(Ford powered)makes the Ford popular for other people.

Personally I think they are both very good engines but I am going the Rover route mainly because I have always had a soft spot for them having owned a couple before.(Besides, if/when it breaks down it`s easier to push back home without a ship`s anchor under the bonnet )

Just a thought
