Springs: which way is up?

Hi all,

I got my Fathers Day present early yesterday when I bought a set of GAZ shocks and springs for the car.

When reading the instructions this morning they say the springs must be installed the correct way up. I have checked the spring for any kind of markings but could not see any.

However, the coils appear to get closer to each one at one end than the other. Does this mean one is the top and one is the bottom?

What difference would it make if they were installed upside down?

Thanks in advance,

Re: Springs: which way is up?

The dampers (shocks) have to be mounted a certain way up and should be marked as such.

The springs shouldnt matter.

At least I hope that is the case or chances are mine up upside down!

Craig.

Thanks in advance,

You have progressively wound springs, tighter coils to the top.
This is a useful website.

Re: Springs: which way is up?

Thats good.

My springs look the same top and bottom so I guess there not progressive ones.

I didn't fancy having to take it all apart again!

Craig.
