| Seething Wings and Wheels this Sunday Mainly aimed at the East Anglian members but if you feel like joining in feel free, this sunday(2nd) we have the Seething Wings and Wheels show and all Cobras are welcome to display, in fact customs, classics etc are all welcome. The airfield is about 10 miles south of Norwich and the forcast looks to be very hot and sunny, there should be many intereting cars and aircraft on display as well as the restored WW2 control tower at this former USAF airbase, see the following link for more details and hope to see as many of you as possible on sunday, cheers, Simon http://seething.go24.co.uk/events.ph..._from=&ucat=2& Seething Airfield Charity Open Day Among this years attractions will be the locally acclaimed ‘Super Swing Big Band’, a 20 piece swing orchestra, jazzing up the days proceedings with music reminiscent of the airfields war time era. A collection of vintage military vehicles will be on display interspersed with a GI or two and several military policeman - all helping to keep order, as they would have done 1943-1945 at Seething, home to the 448th bomb group. And when the music isn’t playing, visitors will hear news bulletins originally broadcast on June 6th 1944 - D-Day! The Columbia Broadcasting System, New York together with Armed Forces Radio 1944 will re-broadcast the dramatic moments when “invasion Europe” was announced. To lighten the mood, GI Jill will broadcast from Hollywood, Los Angeles one of the armed forces most popular radio shows of 1944 – GI Jive. Adding to the 1940’s theme will be a fashion show. Traditional clothing of the 40’s era will be modelled to audiences’ young and old, eager to see how fashion has changed. Local pilots have been invited to fly-in and display their aeroplanes in a static line-up. Some will be old, some not so old (that’s the aeroplanes, not necessarily the pilots) and the odd World War 2 fighter may just happen to drop in! There will be something to capture every aeroplane enthusiast’s interest. And after having looked at the planes, visitors will have an opportunity to fly in one. A British built Britten Norman Islander aircraft will be used for pleasure flights throughout the day. This aircraft is a classic British light utility, twin engine transport, designed to land and takeoff in just a few hundred yards and with the wings situated above the fuselage, the aircraft lends itself well to the ideal aerial viewing platform. For just the price of a regular helicopter ride, visitors can experience a trip in this unique British aircraft and get a grand bird’s eye view of the Norfolk country side. The Seething Flight Simulator will be taking to the virtual skies. Visitors can try their luck at landing a Jumbo jet, or practise aerobatics in a World War 2 fighter. Real controls with the authentic sights and sounds of flight will give budding pilots an almost real taste of the high life! A range of stalls showcasing traditional crafts, artworks, books and militaria, competitions, raffles and tombolas and a fine display of model aircraft from the Chet Valley Modellers will add interest around the main arena. The Norfolk Model Air force will be attending with a fine ground display of authentic scale model aeroplanes. The Loddon Army cadet force, Beccles Girl Guides and the Carlton Coleville Air Scouts are attending and will be on hand to demonstrate their traditional activities. Other clubs displaying include Norwich Classic Vehicles, Kings Lynn Scale Models and the Waveney Valley Model Railway club. A bouncy castle, slide and roundabout should keep the kids amused but if that seems a little tame by comparison we have ‘smashing the crockery’ and a ‘ducking stool’. A barbeque will be served up by the Carlton Coleville Air Scouts along with hot drinks, but visitors requiring a stronger beverage will find a beer tent with members of the Claxton Village Social Club at the pumps serving alcoholic and soft drinks. Drinks and snacks will also be available in the old control tower museum canteen, and a doughnut van will be on hand to satisfy visitors with a sweet tooth! Browsing the various charity stands, will be sure to reveal some bargains, unusual gifts and collectors items – from die-cast model aeroplanes to old fashioned wooden toys, unique paintings, drawings and sketchings. The East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Waveney Hospice are the beneficiaries of this years Seething Airfield Charity Open Day. Contact : Paul Holmes 01603 764834 |

| Re: Seething Wings and Wheels this Sunday Great stuff. Corin sent me a pic of the event. Looked like a good turn out. My head was fine despite the attempt to finish off the last of the barrel at about 3 o'clock. I spent all day Sunday clearing up stuff from the meadow. Just about to sort out my 289 for an early start tomorrow for the Classic at Le Mans. We will be leaving the house at 3am! On a separate subject. Could you let me have a copy of the pics I took of Wilby's engine blow at Marham last year. I am putting a series of pics together for him covering the rebuild. Catch up with you after Le Mans. Cheers Andy
