Changing toys

Hi, looking at switching from my Caterham CSR 260 to something a little more "Practical". I do a fair few trackdays in the CSR and want to continue doing trackdays in the Cobra, but also going to use it for the Le Mans trips, drives to thr Ring and Spa etc, as well as generally charging around the countryside.

I have little or no mechanical knowlege so need the car built. There seem to be loads of great Cobras out there, but have narrowed by first three choices down to Crendon, Dax (DeDion) and GD. Over the next two weeks or so I am going to see all three and get out in each one. I would really appreciate any advice, impartial or otherwise, based off other peoples experiences etc :drive: ...

Many thanks

Dave
There is nothing wrong with an SR if it's set up right.

Crendons are for older Cobra owners. Probably agree on the other comments.:thumb:

Re: Changing toys

I think you should consider the Dax de dion with an added backbone brace. This should achieve the rigidity that you have been used too.
Or the GD, they have a new mould which is not considered to be "quite so gay".

Have fun choosing anyway.

Andy

Re: Changing toys

And a chassis so good, non GD owners wont mention it.

Best thing to do is what you are doing, go up to them all, have a look and a ride!

Re: Changing toys

Nifo, getting a built Crendon might take you a while, I don't think John has any plans to do turn key cars at the moment. Of course you could make him an offer for his demo car................a big offer.

I believe both Wilf's and Crendon Man's cars were for sale a while ago, I'm not sure if either are still interested in selling though.

From what you're saying, I'd point you towards the Dax De Dion or the GD if you can't find a Crendon. If you're looking for something that will do the track work these are probably your best options.
That doesn't mean people don't use AKs or SRs etc on the track happily though.

Once you've been out and had a look at the various makes it would be good to hear your initial thoughts.

Just curious Dave (and Wilf) what is the average age of a crendon owner? I'd assume it is slightly "older" but mainly because you need to be financially secure to afford one?
