Ready..

Well, the waiting is over. Last night I took my maiden voyage in the Daytona. Felt weird and I am still buzzing from it.

All being well, I'll see everyone in Newhaven later and the rest of you over the next few days.

I'm not making excuses in advance but there are a few probs. Last night the fuel pressure regulator decided no to work properly and whilst I wont be able to floor it, this means throttle acceleration with a feather so that is being looked at.

The car is not trimmed, which maybe a good thing as the side screens are'nt quite ready so it if does get wet, there wont be any damage caused.

There are still a lot of finishing bits to do which will be done once back but it was important to get the car ready for Le Mans. I honestly did not think I would be going in it. So, its a big thanks to Ian and of course Roy and Jez.

The car is mental!!! Whilst in the yard, the side exhausts kicked up dust creating a menacing feel. The car rocks and rolls whilt stationary with decent throttle blips. It's not noisy but it sounds great.

I am also without 240mph speedo as it is mechanical and I require a mechanical converter but these things can come later.

Cheers guys. Worked very hard.

See you boys en route.

Re: Ready..

Plod,

Congratulations........

Could you keep an eye on your fuel consumpton ( re other fuel consumption thread) as it would be interesting to see how the Daytona slippery shape effects the fuel usage at normal cruising speeds compared to a "flying brick" Cobra.

Cheers,

Tony

Re: Ready..

We collected the Daytona this evening and all I can say is, well not much actually, as I cannot stop laughing :rotfl:

I was still hyped from doing a few runs of the yard last night :thumb: but being out on the road for the first time was just amazing!!! The sound is still ringing in my ears, over two hours on

I know there are still things to do but it is an awesome car, and I cannot wait to see the final result. I took a quick shot of it on my drive before Paul left, and it looked quite at home; I think he should have left it here

He really does appreciate the time and effort that has been involved in getting it ready for Le Mans. Judging by his reaction today, he is rather taken aback by the mighty beast!

Here's hoping everyone has a great time

Re: Ready..

Well, I received a text from Paul an hour ago, and the Le Mans crew has made it safely

He said the Daytona's gauges showed correct figures. However there are serious issues with ground clearance, "some of the journey the diff/fuel tank has just bounced along happily", but they hope to sort that out later by raising the springs.

He drove in fifth at 60mph and got a disappointing 13mpg
