A.C. Passed down

Hi,

I have recently aquired an A.C. Cobra replica , from my Dad who sadly passed away in April , and know very little about the car , apart from all the history about A.C., Shelby, Rover etc... that i've frantically been reading on the web.

I wonder if there are any members who could tell me a little about what i have got, i.e. who built it, and to what standard, i'm not machanically minded as such but have a great appetite to learn, i'll be happy to supply chassis, engine numbers to anybody that can help, the reg No is as follows, in the off chance that someone may recognise it: HVX 79IT.

Many Thanks,

Matt

Re: A.C. Passed down

Hi Matt,

Sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you can get some enjoyment from the car.
What is the car registered as?
If you have some pics of the engine compartment/interior I'm sure there will be some people here who will identify it for you.

Simon

Re: A.C. Passed down

That would probably be a Viper then. Several Viper experts on this forum, not me tho'.

Re: A.C. Passed down

Hi Matt
I'll have to check but I'm pretty sure there's a picture of your car in my 1998 Classic Replica Build manual. This isn't going to give you much informtion though.
The History is complicated and its hard to find any information on Classic Replicas themselves.

Its definately a Viper...as to which version is down to whether the floors and tunnel are steel or glass. Running gear can be Jag, Sierra or Cortina
The engine's a Rover V8 but the intake is new to me although that's easy...

I've got 3 different articles I can photo copy and send you if you want, all from about 2000. PM me with and address.

The company (those with rights to the shell shape and the name Viper) is currently called Cobretti.
Enjoy!:drive:

Re: A.C. Passed down

Haven't done this before so hope it works. Sorry about the quality...couldn't find a scanner so took a photo of the picture. It's from the "manual" for the Viper IV.
I still think its very similar.
Cheers

Re: A.C. Passed down

Matt,
If your dad built the car you should be very proud, as there about the hardest kit of all, heres some background history to read.

Re: A.C. Passed down

Thanks for the info/History very comprehensive, although, the artical explains that Ken Cooke owned Classic Relicas in 96/97, but in the next paragraph explains that he retired with I'll health in 89/90? is that a Typo.

This car was factory built in 1999, and has the steel floors and tunnel Jag based, so i'd guess it was a later Classic relica? and i thought it may have been built by Ken Cooke?

Any answers greatly appreciated.

Matt

Thanks Deckan i recieved the info this morning, looking forward to have it distract me from what i should be doing.

Not sure it is the same car in the manual, as the roll bar and the air intake on the bonnat are different, (but could have been changed)

Thanks again

Matt
