Unique Autocraft Python

My car is nearly ready for SVA but because the kit manufacturer no longer exists I do not have the design weight of the vehicle, can anyone help ? Would I need any evidance to back up the declared weight.
At what age of engine are cat converters required for the SVA and what proof of age do I require.
Could I Transfer the engine No onto the donor log book and say it was of that age? (engine is rover V8 , donor is Daimler Sov.).
Look forward to your replies.

Many thanks George

RE: Unique Autocraft Python

As far as the age of the engine goes the engine number will give a rough idea of it's age there is a place somewhere on this site that will tell you all the info you need other wise just post the number and I'm sure someone will tell you what years that number was used for.

RE: Unique Autocraft Python

For a car of this type, the "effective date" for requiring catalyst emissions test is 1 August 1995.

You could try contacting RV Dynamics who are now manufacturing this kit......in Sri Lanka the last I heard.
That was what I was originally going to build but the kit wasn't available at the right time.
Contact Nos given in Which Kit Guide 2002/2003:

I reckon old Russ, will be able to guide on the age of you e engine if you post the Engine no. or at least the first part of it.
As for the design weights I think you'll be able to use the generic design weights quoted for most Jag based Cobras.
Sorry I don't have them with me.
Dave are you There???

RE: Unique Autocraft Python

Hi George and welcome - I too have a Python with SBC - been on the road since 1994.

I have no idea of the weight - but it will be v similar to a Dax - ask Dave what an all weight of a Dax with a Rover V8 is and you won't be far wrong.

Any other probs drop me a note - happy to help and I know a few other Python owners too. You could also call Kris Brown, one of the original Unique Directors on 01279 412 794 - he is always v helpful to me.

Will you be at Stoneleigh or Elvington?

Regards - Nigel B

RE: Unique Autocraft Python

Helo again Nigle, we met at stoneleigh last summer.
My Python is a little different from the rest.
Back in the begining when Unique only made body shells and not chassis, they were very basic then with only single skins for doors boot and bonnet. A chassis was made for the body by, I belive, Pat Hanson and Brian Nicholes, the latter then went on to form Southern Roadcraft. (my chassis No is BOP-01) Dont know who the O is for.To cut a long storey short I aquired the chassis complete with jag running gear and the early body shell. I also aquired a much later body shell which I have used to build the car. Will show you the pics of the build when we meet again.
