Replacing the Windscreen

I've just noticed the beginings of a crack appearing on my windscreen. Looks like the previous owner screwed the sun visor in a little too tight. There's a strategically placed sticker at the point from where the crack starts!!!

After a quick look it would appear Pilgrim will want £400 for a new windscreen for my Mark II Sumo.

Is this just one of those specialst parts I have no choice but to buy from them or are there alternatives out there?? All help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Lee

Re: Replacing the Windscreen

Both Brasscraft and Autobrass will reglaze your screen but i used a local autoglass, through my insurers, who had a screen in stock, just had to pay a little excess.

Autobrass 01805804583
Brasscraft 01252782702

hope this helps :thumb:

Re: Replacing the Windscreen

If it's a Pilgrim supplied screen with the bonded side pillars, Autobrass or Brasscraft will not re-glaze it, you will have to take it back to Pilgrim.

Bonded side pillars??

As far as I can see it is a chrome type surround with a rubber gasket holding the glass in!!

Looks like a rubber gasket and it is indeed a chrome type surround, but If it's a Pilgrim screen the side pillars are bonded in.

If it's a Brasscraft or Autobrass screen you will see screws down the side pillars which hold them to the screen, if in doubt , post a picture of the sreen pillars and somebody will tell you which screen it is.

Preety sure there are screws all down the side but will double check tonight. Thanks!

Re: Replacing the Windscreen

I have a non bonded (non Pilgrim) screen. I replaced that glass earlier this yearby taking the whole screen Devon to Dave Shrubsole who fixed it while I and my wife had a weekend break.
Job done.

Re: Replacing the Windscreen

I had the same problem with a crack from the sun visor fixing point. I just gave my local auto glass repair Pilgrims number and they order the glass from them and re-glazed it all for £50 excess on my insurance. :thumb:

Re: Replacing the Windscreen

Different experiences it seems but there have been posts on here as to the very poor service / inability to cope with anything out of the ordinary that places like Autoglass can offer.

Have a look at some of the old posts on here before going to them.

To be fair - I have had no experience but am only repeating what I have read in the forum.
