How many people fall for these SCAMS (obviously a lot).

I have just advertised my wife’s low mileage two year old estate car in a very well known magazine. Unfortunately I was plagued with “car finder companies” and received at least six SCAM emails, two of which are below.

All of the questions were answered in the advert anyway.

The sad thing is that a lot of people must fall for them otherwise they would not be in business.

Hii,

Thanks soo much for the mail and yea just to let u know that i am not in the position to make call right now cos my phone does not have the permit to make an international calls. And i am highly intrested in buying the car from you it is Really my choice and what have been serching for.

So u dont need to worry once we conclude on everything i will locate a local pay phone station to give u a call. But am really ok with the details i got from the web site and its really my taste.

Really just to let u know that as for the payment,i will be paying with a Certified Bank Draft drawn from a local bank in UK, and as for the shipping i will handle that myself by contacting my international shipping agent to really handle that for me.

As for the Question i will ask on the car here is what i want to know more.

(1) How many Miles has the Car done ?
(2) What is the present condition of the Engine
(3) How does the Documentation of the car look like
(4) The Shork Absober,Plugs,Tires,Head light and others
(5) Also email me its present Pixs if avaialble and if not dont worry ur self on that.

Really I based in Denmark were i work as a Minner but originally from Wales(Dad if from Wale and mum is a Denish). As for the price i will want u to let me know the last price so that the payment can be sent.

If u are ok with me then u can mail me back and let us conclude on everything today.

Thanks soo much.

Good Afternoon
I am interested in your CAR listed for sale,
I will like to know if you still have it for sale.
Are you the first owner?
Did you have all the PAPER work and the receipt of phurchase for documentation?
what is your last asking price and the present condition? Please email me back at your earliest conviniece your last asking price, the area for the pick up and lastly the reason for offering it for sale.
Send more pics if also avilable if NOT is okay
My preffered method of payment is BANKS DRAFT IN GBP, which would CLEAR in your BANK ACCOUNT WITHIN 2 TO 3 WORKING DAYS. Before i could take the possession of the CAR.
I will wait to hear from you soonest.

Cheers
Mrs White

Re: How many people fall for these SCAMS (obviously a lot).

Personally, i would never accept a cheque of anybody, certainly not for a large amount of money anyway.... Cash all the way...

Cheques can be claimed back months after you have spent the money, which kind of makes them useless doesn't it....!!!

Somebody sent us a cheque from South Africa for an engine we were selling for £800. The cheque was for £2000, you've heard the scams i'm sure.... We still have the cheque somewhere, needless to say we didn't try banking it...!!!

Bankers Draft from a UK bank is as safe as a row of houses. :thumb:

The question is though, how many people know what one looks like...? It is a common scam now for people to spend a lot of money on forging these things, including watermarks and holograms, which people fall for....

Do a search on google and you will find lots of people that have accepted UK bankers drafts and been ripped off....

Me for one and if they can't spot a forged one, just ring up the bank and check on it's authenticity.

Oh no it isn't. Mate of mine got dicked with a fake UK bankers daft. Let the car go, put the draft into the bank which accepted it, then was told a week or so later it was a duffer and lost his money. Cash, Cash & Cash are the only things acceptable.

I sold my 5 series BMW last year an insisted on cash. Went to the bank with the buyer and stood at the cashiers window until they counted it and said all was well before letting the car go.

Sad fact of life at the moment - you have been warned!!!

Re: How many people fall for these SCAMS (obviously a lot).

Do what I do - take the cheques from them, check them out with the bank that they're supposed to be from and then send them to them.

Then try and get a second cheque out from them - just to annoy them as the first one got lost in the post.

Oh and use an address that can't be traced to you.

Not that I would know... I used to wind up African Scammers in my spare time and then moved onto dodgy cheque folk who wanted their car or equipment shipped somewhere...

To prove that they're dodgy - send them a picture of a car that's not related to your ad - e.g. advertising a Corsa - send a picture of a Landrover. They don't care what car it is all they want is the excess funds... Trust me..

............................In Beirut

Have a look at this Mike:-
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...74885&f=72&h=0

In the past when I was importing cars I used to insist the buyer delivers the draft while the banks are open then i telephone the issuing branch and ask them to confirm the draft is genuine. Sometimes they (The bank) try to tell you that the info is confidential, to which I say "If you won't confirm then your customer will not be very happy when they get back as they will not get the goods from me". This usually shakes them up and they do the decent thing.
