Re: Stainless Rivet Plea....

Hi Ben,

I've got some 5mm steel pop rivets that you can have for nowt. They are a right bastard to fire off with a pop rivet gun! (I think that they are about 10mm long)

There not stainless but I'm sure that they'll remain shiny as long as you polish them every now and then.

Let me know if you want them. :thumb:

Thanks for the offer I would have snapped your hand off had I not seen the link above :thumb: , didnt need to be stainless as they are out of sight under a band, but just needed not to be aluminium.
Anyway
thanx again..

Re: Stainless Rivet Plea....

God bless the SVA how hot do they think your exhaust gets??
Im assuming your not at the very start of the headers with your band/pop rivet.

I wonder if the Vehicle inspectorate ever stopped and wondered why paper thin alumium sandwich head and exhaust gaskets dont melt where they protrude into the flame path?

Dont forget to rivet in triplicate for them!!!

Melt temp Aluminum 1190 - 1215 degress C

sorry didnt make myself clear there..what I was on about was that I need extra rivets for taking out all the packing after the SVA, so nothing to do with the SVA really. When I picked up my exausts Roger told me to use stainless as somepeople had had their aluminium rivets melt, but looking at your temps is that actually possible?

Re: Stainless Rivet Plea....

Now I understand!!

Ally rivets that hold baffles in will eventually fail due to them 'fretting' on the surrounding steel, but theyd be a lot easier to drill out after the SVA (to, say, repack to retain the tested silencing, ahem)

Re: Stainless Rivet Plea....

You can also get problems with galvanic corrosion using aluminium rivets into steel...

...bit worried about my aluminium engine block now - that's pretty close to the exhausts!!
