Re: vehicle weights

Why did you check corner weights? why not the whole car? only problem with just doing corners weights is that the anti roll bar needs to be dissconected before weighting, unless you have done somthing different :thumb:

Re: vehicle weights

Tone -was that last Pilgrim yours then??

I thought your SVA weight was less than 800kg with your old 3.5 block, so what's happened here?

Ricky -I think you'll find few Pilgrims/AK's have anti-roll bars as standard

Richard, Pilgrim state in the manual that the car weighs 850 kg when built with a RV8 so that was the figure i've been using. Interesting to note the difference though :thumb:

Ricky, checking the corner weights DOES weigh the whole car

Measuring all four corners will give total weight. the anti roll bar only causes inaccuracy if trying to balance the weight on the front end - that is false readings if trying to equalise the front geometry.

Re: vehicle weights

I think I see where Rickys confusion might lie.

One can buy a corner weight checker for quick track use - it costs about £150, and simply lifts each wheel in turn a fraction and checks the effort to do it. Because of the way it works, simply adding the 4 results up may not give an accurate total vehicle weight. Just knowing the relative proportions between wheels can be enough sometimes for a quick check.

Using electronic 4 wheel scales though, (as they do at SVA, and as Tony did) does both at once, and accurately.

I would have thought that someone with as broad a reach of knowledge as Ricky usually claims might have known that, though.

Hi Mark.
Isn't that the design weight (As completed on the SVA application form)?
The actual vehicle weight will be somewhat less if that is the case.

My builds are Gross at 1440 but actual weight is nearer 1130 on the scales for a SBC engine and stainless engine bay cladding.:thumb:
