| Southern Roadcraft I was wondering why there is no catagory dedicated to The above, they seem to be popular, and one of the earlier models, does this mean they have no problems or building quieries. Colinb ![]()

| Re: Southern Roadcraft The reson i posted the question was that i went to look at an old one for sale and it was very good nick, and i remember my first ride in a cob was a SR and i saw it being built and will always remember the amount of 2''X2'' RHS that it was made of in the shassis and it looked very strong. Has the name been carried over totaly to madgwick and are they produceing the same thing, and i wonder if the mould is the origional, on that thread if bodies complete were not available would this reduce the price of car because at the moment they sem to be holding there own. | Re: Southern Roadcraft Hi Colin, There’s no doubt in my mind that it HAS the strongest chassis of all times. It was the first to obtain a German hydropulse test approval. It’s main rails are actually 100x50 supplemented by 50x50 outriggers and 25x25 cockpit superstructure (plated with 2mm steel). Awesome in strength. The Madgewick, I understand, is being produced to the original design on the original jig and with the original moulds. They’ve just improved a few details. Hope this helps. Den

| Re: Southern Roadcraft Colin Just to add fuel to the fire get someone to take you out in a SR and then another replicar. If you are on a road that is not perfectly smooth you will notice movement in opposite directions between the trans tunnel and the dash in most. The SR stays put without flex when driven. That's not to say it's the best because all of the chassis have their own characteristics and are equaly if not better at other atributes. As far as I'm aware the SR is the only replicar with side impact bars under the rear arches. As Den says Madgewick have made a few improvements in their eyes, and without a doubt the SR has stood the test of time and I believe it's only because of the ownership of the company being changed that it got a bit lost in the late 90's. It's got a solid home now. I am totaly biased of course and the only reason I bought mine was 'cos it drove better than all the other makes of car I had been in. When buying a car just remember that it's all about build quality, there are some ropey examples of all makes out there.

| Re: Southern Roadcraft Yes I would also like to agree with Daves comments above, no chassis flex in my car not like some that I know of.

| Re: Southern Roadcraft First Cob I hitched a ride in was my cousin's SR with RV8 power which is still in his family(now completing his Dax), lovely civilised feel on the road, in a memorable drive on a dark December night! Paul/runt.

| Re: Southern Roadcraft I think my origional question of why there is not a section for SR is ireputably that there should be one because there is nothing but praise for the cars, so come on admin set one up for them. Colinb

| Re: Southern Roadcraft Dave I'm sure there are quite a few more than that. I think you will find that when they come up for sale they are bought and if you own one you generaly find they are kept instead of passed on. I do however agree they are not in the same numerical numbers as Dax or Pilgrim. Colin Maybe we don't want the exclusivity of a special section. With the vast array of knowledge here on the forum all one has to do is ask. Then the SR would be just like all the rest. :drive: :drive:
