Spinners

Any of you chaps with Knock off Spinners got comments on their everday use. eg working loose, locking on, use of lcok paste etc etc.
Having lived with them would you, given the chance, go back to studs or are you perfectly happy with them?

Cheers D

Re: Spinners

Only done 1500 miles but so far no problems. No lockwire & checked regularly for the first hundred miles or so with no movement. The spinners are handed with right & left hand threads so shouldn't be able to work loose.

Re: Spinners

Hi Dale,

All the previous answers are correct, because it depends on which ones youre using.
If you are using Halibrand style spinners, because of the inertia of such a large spinner, they should be lockwired in at least one point.

If you are using the Hawk type 289 spinner on wires (same thread as an MGB) it is a small spinner, with very fine thread, so doesnt need anything more than an occasional stout blow with the hide mallet to check its all ok.

So, big halibrand spinners-lock wire, small Hawk/MG type 289 spinners not needed.

Re: Spinners

Cheers Guys,
What about any problems getting them off .. no one had a spinner locked onto the threads at all. I want to go down this route but dont want to regret it later because they're a pain to live with.

Re: Spinners

Have mine lock wired on, lock wire facing away from rotation of spinner so they can't undo, never had a problem with them working loose and have never noticed any tension building in the lock wires that would indicate that they have moved, this is despite doing 4 or five track days and putting loads of use through them, and they look so muck better. If you do go down the Trigo/ real Halibrand route check out my previous posts about my front hub design, might be of use to you, cheers Simon

Re: Spinners

Guys,

May I ask what might sound like a stupid question, but do the left hand thread (ie opposite to nornal) spinners go on the left or right side of the car?

Peter (who has just bought a set of Halibrands with spinner and adapters for Jag suspension.

Re: Spinners

Not a stupid question at all, when lives depend on it The LH Threaded spinner goes on the RH side of the car :thumb: (Drivers side on a RHD/English car)
