Twin turbo rover v8

OK, it's not a cobra, but I was wondering if anyone on this forum had any experience of a setup like this?

Come one then, what have you bought??

The other day you wanted a trailer!

I have seen that setup once in a rangeover think it was done by Janspeed.

I have a feeling Eric may have in his younger years, may be wrong though (PM Osgood).

Re: Twin turbo rover v8

Can't say I have experience with them having never seen one before but I am guessing it may be fairly simple.

It looks like there are two tubes missing from your photos, that link the two intercoolers to the carburettors.

There is a bit of history about the Janspeed setup on this page.

http://www.roversd1.nl/sd1web/jspeed.html

It looks like Janspeed attached the SU carb to the end of the turbo, where as your one seems to have the carbs in the standard place on top of the engine. I didn't think you could use the SU carbs under pressure as they rely on vacuum to lift the dampers in the dashpots. Maybe these carbs are modified to cope with forced induction.
Looks good, although it May need a bit of a clean

Any idea what size the engine is?

Craig

Re: Twin turbo rover v8

Thanks Craig,

It's only a 3.5 and I do have those pipes.
I know very little about the engine apart from the carb arragements are off two montego turbo's (classy eh?)
I'm debating whether to rip the engine out and put in a fuel injected 4.6 rover or to just replace it with a ford 302. I'm not after out and out power, rather a nice drivable (economical?) car which I can use regularly.
Simon

Re: Twin turbo rover v8

Personly I would go with the small block Ford option.
The turbo kit would sell well on E-bay.

It would give you the chance then to add the lovely 180 degree exhaust system that gives the GT40 such a lovely sound.

Craig.

Re: Twin turbo rover V8

From what Rob used to say about his supercharged Chevy, it was mind blowingly fast when needed ( most of the time in Rob's case ) but very drivable and economical ( Ha Ha ) when driven steadily.

I agree with Tinka here.
Superchargers/turbochargers are great fun with tons of go BUT bloody expensive to put right when they go wrong.(4 engines this year so far )
Not sure about the economical bit as I tend to use 10 times the amount of NoS than I probably did fuel with the blower.
