Replacement windscreen for Pilgrim Sumo

hi,

I did a few searches on this topic but didn't uncover anything up to date. Rather f-ing annoyingly when fitting the SVA proofing on my Pilgrim supplied windshield I've cracked the glass in two places. The cracks are around half an inch each in length so the screen must be replaced.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of this. The Pilgrim catalogue has prices for glass only so I'm assuming (or hoping) that I won't have to buy another unit and that the glass can be swapped. However if we do have to replace the whole unit I'd rather replace it with a windshield that doesn't have to be removed to fit new glass.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

cheers,

John

P.S are autoglass the best people to get the glass refitted if that's an option?

Re: Replacement windscreen for Pilgrim Sumo

Sorry to hear about your mishap....:boohoo:

I know Pilgrim will perform the refitting of the glass for you.... especially in units they have supplied. However, I am not sure if the price quoted includes fitting... best give them a ring first.

Can I ask why you think the cracks appeared? Which parts of the SVA kit were you fitting at the time?

Good luck......

Re: Replacement windscreen for Pilgrim Sumo

I was fitting the plastic covers for the side of the windshield to cover the edges of the windscreen arms. They screw in.

I started to screw in the screw, turned it once and two half inch cracks appeared, I used the wrong size screw it would seem. It's probably the most awkward part of the car to break, ARRRGH!

Nick do you mind letting me know how much you paid? Pilgrim charge £104 for the tinted glass I think. Also did yours arrive safely? I'm a bit worried that it might break in the post.

Re: Replacement windscreen for Pilgrim Sumo

Hi

Sorry to hear of your news. I have replaced two pilgrim screens now and it is simply a case of pulling off all the chrome surround, fit a new rubber to the screen as the old one usually stretches even if its never seen road use and then re seal it all back together. The tinted glass is £104 unfitted.

In my experience I have never had a screen break in transit only through mis use and stone chips.

Its a relatively easy task to do compared to actually fitting it to the car.

As for the SVA kit I advise sticking the covers to the sides with sticky fixers or silicone then removing it with some panel wipe after SVA. This will eliminate the risk of breaking the glass.

Re: Replacement windscreen for Pilgrim Sumo

Anthony thanks for you help, I'm definitely going to stick them on for the SVA, the screws seem like a bad idea. It's good to know that having the screen refitted isn't too much of a problem. I'll order a new one from Pilgrim tomorrow.
