Which Cobra to go for //// Wet weather gear

HI Guys. My first time on the forum. Thinking of buying a Cobra replica for the summer. My Dad has always loved the car and so have I. Thought it would be nice if I could take him out in it for a bit of "cruising"
My question is a two parter. Firstly in your experience what make would be the best to go for. Dax, GD, Southern Roadcraft(?) etc... advice very welcome here! I have about 15k to spend.
Secondly. For the days during the English summer when it rains...that'll be most of them then! Does anyone supply Wet weather gear/hard tops for their cars, more importantly do they keep the rain out!
Thanks for your help
Andy

Contrary Mary

Andy, AK seems to be the popular one right now goes together quite well & will take a large V8 if required.

Although I was advised not to bother with a hood I am glad I did. Earns brownie point re the Misses (keeps her warm!. With only one side screen on and the old Mini heater going its quite comfortable. I would say mine is about 90% water tight even at high speed, but it has to be fitted right from the start; I have seen some terrible examples!! Best of luck Eric.

Andy

The GD hardtop is probably the best option, but only fits a GD. Alistair built his GD including hardtop for around 12K, have a hunt for his post in the owners section.

RE: Which Cobra to go for //// Wet weather gear

Andy,

Most of the manufactures supply weather gear and fitting is the most important bit. GD's hartop is a work of art, but cheap it ain't. The GD softop comes with 2 options, lift the dot fastnings around the rear or a moulded section that screws down.

I've got the moulded option and this holds the hood taught in a way that lift the dots couldn't. I took mine to North Wales last weekend (500 mile round trip) and it chucked it down all weekend, the only thing needed was a rag in each corner twixt windscreen and sidescreen, other than that very pleasant.

Cheers

Jim

As Rob says. The best weather gear is the GD one (Hard top).

RE: Which Cobra to go for //// Wet weather gear

Dont know about anybody els but i have looked into the hardtop jobbie and when I get my body (ooo seems like donkeys years away yet) Im gunna go for the hawk, and 'adapt' (thats what I think anyway) it onto fit my Dax. Now obviously this means learning loads about fibreglass butI have an article about doing this (looks easy, posted to me by jim) so Im gunna give it a go, before painting and what not. excuse any speling cause Ive been on thhe loopy juice (stella)...

good luk

RE: Which Cobra to go for //// Wet weather gear

Hi Ben
I've heard it said that the AK and Dax bodies are quite similar and if that is the case, AK are in the process of making a hard top for there kit. It isn't finished yet but it might need less work doing to it when it is.
