££££££-per-mile

As a matter of interest to everyone could someone sort out a way where we all could enter our engine spec and fuel consumpion to form a overview for everyone to see how bad or good our little throbers are doing, i think it would be interesting, and if i had the ability i would doit for us ''honest''.

All depends on how you drive. When being conservative and on a long motorway run at 65 mph and 2,000 rpm my Ford 302 rated at 260 bhp returns over 25 mpg. Whereas when been driven like a hooligan with the loud pedal to the floor I get about 10 - 12 mpg if I'm lucky!
Must be because I'm a young hooligan!

Re: ££££££-per-mile

Yep know what you mean, although i feel i have left the hooligan behind now, i enjoy squeezing the throttle gently and feel my gut tighten around my backbone, although if we could set a perameter to get some idea it would set some guidlines for what to expect from a good set up, there are tremendously different figures that people quote, from my experiences with yank motors i could never expect to see 25-30 on a run, i know these are light cars but if some of them are then i would like to know how they are doing it.
As a matter of interest, with the Elderbrock carb, has any one played with the tuning kit of springs and needles you can buy and how did it go.

Clive.
At 10 mpg you are not trying hard enough. You should be able to get an American V8 down to 5 MPG.
If your engine is set up reasonable well then if you make a consious effort you should get around 25 unless youhave over cammed your engine or it is a big block where I would expect 20 MPG tops.
Most people will average Clive's figures because temptation is too great to resist.

Re: ££££££-per-mile

With my 383 stroker and approx 450bhp (375 RWHP) I used to get about 15mpg. I then changed the manifold for a Victor Jnr and put a K+N filter on and now its gone down to 12mpg on an average 'fun' run. :drive: :drive: :drive:
