Dax visit

Went to Dax today for a run in the Tojeiro. The damn things mental.I could not believe the road holding, Iknow the things bloody fast but Ihave to say the way it stuck to the road was impressive.Been driven(scared) a few times by Garry in various Rushes but this was a different animal altogether.Sold my 4.6 Rush a few months ago and I did'nt think anything could hold the road better than that.I've just bought a part built Cosworth Rush to build over winter which I'll sell next spring with a bit of luck and then order a De Dion Toj.Got to have one.Still not decided on engine ,I was going to go Windsor or Cleveland but after today I'm thinking about big block.Any advice appreciated.
Cheers John

Re: Dax visit

Yep, mental indeed, the combination of Toj, Gary and 600 ft/lbs is formidable.
Don't know how heavy that modern big-block Chev is but obviously a stroked Windsor is relatively light and gives big-block type go. I guess a lot of people start out thinking 'only a FE will do'..I did..soon discovered that the small block engined cars were apparently better balanced, less prone to heating probs.
Can't remember if Dax demo has ally or iron block

Re: Dax visit

It is an iron block.I'm thinking is it worth getting a small block stroked etc. When you have the torque of the big block in pretty much standard tune(Iknow Dax's is'nt)will the extra weight make that much difference. You then have the fuel consumption problem but you won't need to work the big block as hard.Plenty for me to ponder.

Re: Dax visit

Yup - stroker small blocks are a good way to go, but.............nothing sounds like a big block.

Re: Dax visit

Plus, the Dax demo car's big block has fuel injection and catalytic convertors so should be reasonable on fuel consumption (if thats one of your concerns?).

Re: Dax visit

Hi Steve,
I'm not really that bothered about fuel consumption, The 4.6 in the Rush was a stage3 so that used to drink it. Not as much as an American I suppose but its just part of the deal.It would be good to get 30 odd to the gallon but not a lot you can do.
Cheers John

Re: Dax visit

Can't really offer that much advice, as I'm no expert and people on here have a much better idea than I do. The only thing I can say is that we have gone down the 351W stroked option and it fits in nicely (albeit when mated to the T56 with a street twin clutch the gearbox is a bit tight and the prop is very short). On paper calculations (which I know are not highly reliable) we hope to be able to approach your consumption figures when cruising sensibly on the motorway in top gear. That is mated to a 3.51 (or is it 3.54 - 3.5 something anyway) jag rear diff.

The only other thing I would say is that the Dax demostrator I believe has a Dart racing block, which brings all of the problems of catalytic converters which I know that they had real problems with.

Re: Dax visit

The Dax demo has a Repower supplied 502 Chevy crate motor fitted with Edlebrock fuel injection.
The block is Iron and the heads are alloy.

Re: Dax visit

Gary was saying how smooth the delivery was with the fuel injection, but as you say they did have problems with the catalysts not only strangling the power but also overheating the bodywork where the exhaust exits.Jonny what sort of bhp/torque figures would you expect from your stroked Ford(roughly)?
