Right-steered Cobra Kits available in Germany??

Hello everyone!

i would like to ask you if anyone has got information about right-steered cobra kitcars available in germany?! or maybe just that a british manufacturer builds right-steered replicas as well?
has anyone of you experiences with importing the kits to germany?
i know that pilgrim and roadcraft produce right-steered models as well and i`m especially searching for an alternative inbetween - my favorite would be builing a dax-replica an, as i know so far, it is much cheaper to buy the parts here an import than back.
is ther maybe a german member of this forum who can give me some hints or tell me his experiences?

thank you for that so far!

FamousPlumber

p.s. i met a very freindly guy on the exeter car show last weekend who recommended this community to me. i`m sorry, but i can`t remember his name yet. i just want to say thank you and keep going here - it`s a fantastic community!

I think I recall from Dax's price list a few years ago, the availability of a left-hand drive rack, so I presume one is available

Dax do them, GD do them, no idea regarding AK.

Press report from GD on Heins left hooker GD in Holland.

Hi FP, check out "www.v8cobra.co.uk"

RE: Right-steered Cobra Kits available in Germany??

Hello FamousPlumber,

there is a variety of possibilities getting hold of a left-hand Cobra´s in Germany.

However, you will find, that most (if not all) of the local Cobra-replica producers do base on kits which have been manufactured abroad
(most of them from the UK or U.S).

They tend to focus on modifications and improvments - like any other
builder who receives a "standard-kit"

Some of them are highly recommendable and some are real crap (personal opinion)

As you are aiming for a DAX I do recommend: CN Fahrzeugbau in Dormagen (www.cobra-cn.de)

These guys are participating in the Cobra-Cup and I may say their expertise appears to be outstanding and they have made the DAX "their Dax".

However, let me state that I am not too sure about the more competitive prices in Germany compared to the UK - this may depend on a variety of aspects.....

Last but not least allow me to draw your attention to an independant Cobra-web site in Germany which might also be useful for you (although communication is in german I am absolutely sure that you would also receive response and help when posting in english): www.cobra-roadster.com

Compared to the cobraclub site there is not that much traffic on the site but the people are outstandingly nice (must be as I am one of them) and all of them are very supportive and real Cobra-enthusiasts.

So stay on this site and also have a look at the german-site from time to time.

Carsten

Hello FamousPlumber

It was myself and Martin Lancaster from the South West Region of the CRC that you met at Exeter last weekend.

The red car on our stand is owned by Martin and the kit was supplied by AK Sporstcars, I have just phoned AK and they would produce a kit in left hand drive. They are a family run firm and they will be more than helpfull with any questions that you might have

There web address is as follows www.aksportscars.com

The show at Exeter was basically a sports car show and therefore was not represented by the major kit car manufactures, if you want to visit a show where all the major manufactures will be displaying, plus about 3000 kit car owners cars outside, you must visit the National Kit Car Show at Stoneleigh Park, Royal Showground, Near Kenilworth, Warwickshire on the 4th and 5th May 2003.

Hi Kev.
Cheers for that.
I have built 35 Dax Cobras for Germany and have contacts in Germany who can assist in putting the car through the TUV test.
If you want one ring me (+44 7785 702005)or as Kev says, visit my website www.v8cobra.co.uk

RE: Right-steered Cobra Kits available in Germany??

Hi Famous Plumber
I have a RHD Cobra that I built in teh UK and imported to Germany. Fully support what one of teh other posts says about Cristian Nowak (CN). He builds Dax to a very high standard indeed but they are also seriously expensive - he uses new compenents throughout and including engine catalysts etc which may be needed on a new build car here.

He really knows his stuff mind you and is a good race driver also. Call him on 0049 2133 43141 and ask his advice on how you best get a car through the TUV.

Drop me a note if you need more info.

There is also a company here that builds Pilgrims but I know little about them.

You could also contact members of the German Replica Club

RE: Right-steered Cobra Kits available in Germany??

Thnak you very much for all of your hints!!
especially the information about available carkits in germany - i want to build the car on my own - that`s the most important thing for me, not only the driving afterwards.
nevertheless i`ll contact the persons whom you recommended to me and collect as much information as possible!
we`ll see - maybe my next topics here in this forum are tecnically questions about my car?!?

and of course - special thanks to mike and martin from the exeter carshow!!!

cheers

ben
