python cobra.

Right first off leave the slagging match right here. I saw the kit at the show in exeter, and liked it. ive been drooling over cobra reps for a while now and unfortunately the only way i can afford one is to have it as my daily driver... I've currently got a 3series cab and love it to bits but fancy a change. This seems the perfect car for me as a bmw nut (best of both worlds), but i was wondering has anyone any experience of these cars??? What are they like to live with and more importantly what do they drive like??? Thanks in advance Chris.
Ps congrats on the good show...:drive:

Re: python cobra.

From what I know and have read (even though what I have read is completely biased) DO NOT buy that car. It is a death trap and very badly engineered/put together. The chasis has no triangulation at all which reduces the overall strength of the chasis to practically nil. Also, I have been informed that the roll bars are lower than your head height, so if the worst was to happen ......it's not even worth thinking about. The car is also made in Sri Lanka (correct me if I'm wrong), so repairs/problems will be hard to resolve etc. You may think that it is a money saving option, but a second hand car by a more respectable manuafcturer (Pilgrim, GD, AK and Dax etc) could be bought for the same price as what you are looking at. (All this is from my own opinion so take from it what you want).

Therefore it cannot be taken into account.

I don't have a view at all, however as you stated, the information to date is biased so we need to wait and stop the current animosity to all things Python. :thumb:

Re: python cobra.

You will probably find that using a Cobra as a daily driver is not practical.
This will apply regardless of the maker.
That said, items such as hardtops & rigid sidescreens, which are more readily available now, will ease the pain in bad weather or the winter months, but Cobra's are really for weekend fun.

Generally, it does not pay to be among the first customers for ANYTHING. Regardless of any claims by any manufacturer, there will always be problems which are not corrected until production has been underway for a while. In the case of cars, this applies as much to mainstream manufacturers as it does to kit car manufacturers.

If you haven't already done so, you would be wise to attend some of the local club meetings and speak to the owners. All will be pleased to discuss the various merits and drawbacks of their car (and they ALL have merits AND drawbacks).
If you can attend one of the track type open days you will be able to assess one make against another, on looks, quality and performance.

I agree 100%. I am fed up with all the bickering that goes on between both sides of the coin so to speak and would like them to just leave it to rest. IMO it lowers the professional quality which can be found in 99% of our industry, and just makes the two concerned look like little babies.

Rant over.

Re: python cobra.

Tell me....weather wise ...what's the difference between riding a motorcycle all year round and driving an open top car all year round? The only difference I can think of is that the car fills up with water when it rains. A few drain holes should sort that.
