Cobra replica vs something quick?

Hi just wondering how the likes of a cobra replica say 350 cu in Chevy @ 350bhp similar torque would fair against the likes of something like a WRX Impreza / Mitsubishi EVO what ever? And does anyone have any interesting or amusing tales regarding such? I know I know that you can't condone people racing each other on the streets but haven't we all burned someone off at some point or another and have it resulted in a cheshire cat grin and a recount toour mates in the pub at a latter date??? {-}

RE: Cobra replica vs something quick?

Both the cars you have mentioned are 4x4 and off the line this gives them a huge advantage, especially in the wet.

Bog standard Yank V8 against Bog standard Jap racer and the Japs have it 0-60, 0-100 would be close and anything over 100 and the Cobra wins.

Like all cars they can be tuned and this opens up to all sorts of possibilities, but at the end of the day you can tune the Yank V8 further.

But then if you’re running a good old British Cosworth then all of the above get a good view of the back of your head }(

Even more pants.

My Son had a toy steering wheel which he used to spin furiously, making loads of go-faster noises, leaning into all the tight corners, perhaps running the government feels a bit like that. You make all the noises, but when you stop you haven't really gone anywhere.

RE: Cobra replica vs something quick?

Interesting, picking up new sti8 prodrive next tuesday. Can't compare the 2. The sti is awsome ,handling is exceptional feel totally at ease pressing the loud pedal on quiet b roads I liken it to my mates missus "great ride but firkin ugly". My Dax with 5.7 chevy 'moded'would beat it in a straight line on a flat surface but through the twisties on a less than perfect suface it wouldn't come close.I also don't have big enough gonads to take the cob over 130 whereas the sti8 would be a piece of cake. Personally feel that the handling on any cob other than a GD is pants unless on a track of which i have no experience. But having said that I personally think a well presented cob is a piece of art & for all its short commings I'd never be without one
Cheers
Lardy

RE: Cobra replica vs something quick?

Let me just clarify something here.

Impreza 0-60 is around 5.7 seconds weighs 1200-1300Kgs 4Wd
BWM 740i, 0-60 is 7.0 seconds and weights 1900Kgs, RWD

Same sort of HP figures, but I know which one I would buy.

Whatever Cobra weighs anything between 950Kgs and 1300Kgs, so the lardier Cobras would be more than competitive, but the lighter Cobras would run rings around some Jap Crap.

And I'm not even running a 'big yank' V8 (poor old Rover P6 engine) - to give him a chance!. {-} {-} {-}

RE: Cobra replica vs something quick?

Hmm!! Went out for a spin in the Dax Rush when down at Harlow one time collecting my mate's kit, Gary reckoned that a Rush could drive round the outside of an Impreza on a roundabout. Heard someone suggest that a GD could drive round the outside of that! {-} Any takers?

Would love to, she’s not on the road at the moment but as soon as she is I’ll take you on anywhere you wish. I’m not someone to blow hot air when it comes to racing so I really hope you meant it. If you can’t wait that long I know someone with the same set-up in a Sierra, heavier car so slower than mine, and he might be up for it.

Just to warn you though, you will be taking on the engine Ford used in their touring cars in the 90s and she’s got a real kick. Guy in Germany running one at over 800hp with torque to match, but I’m aiming at a more acceptable 550hp
