Inline Ads

Guys & Girls

I have been playing around with how to make the forum work/pay for itself when the membership gets stripped out.

I have just implemented inline adverts on the forum so you will see words underlined with a dotted line. When you mouse over the words it will display a contextual advert.

There may be a slight delay in the very short term as the site is crawled for the software to work out what ads it should display but it will be crawled within the next 24 hours.

This will mean we can still run the site and you lot won't have to subsidise it. If it doesn't work well, then I may have to look at other options.

Any questions, let me know. :thumb:

Well done Robert, keep up the good work, if the new format doesn't work out, I for one would be more than willing to pay a contribution towards the upkeep. :thumb: :thumb:

Yep, trying to keep away from subscriptions at the moment as it gets a bit messy.

Re: Inline Ads

Rob, I went on a site recently with this format. I personally hated it.
May be a good enough reason to implement it eh?

I'd rather pay, and keep the advertising down. :thumb:

Just my two pennies.

Any particular reason why you hated it. Its unobtrusive and you can easily tell which urls are links and which are advertising urls as the advertising links are dotted.

Re: Inline Ads

Rob - I would pay to have the word "Chevy" underlined, with an ad that popped up and said "Are you sure, Ford IS better after all".

How much for a month's worth please?
