Brake pipes

Goodmorning...

I am installing the brake pipes and have run into a bit of a problem....
Whilst I have brake pipes numbered 2, 3, 4(15)
I have not been given 5 and 6 (from the dax brake pipe kit..)

However,

I do have
2x 7R
2x 8
1x 12

and no "T" (or any other) terminals whatsoever....

Can anyone shed some light on this situation??

Re: Brake pipes

I assume you are using the Automec copper pipe kit and have the XJS inboard brake chassis.

I which case the following applies...

Pipe 4, Main front to rear goes from the master cylinder to one of the brake callipers. Right hand one if it is a right hand drive car.

The 7R pipes are for linking both halves of the rear callipers together. My callipers were reconditioned by Wards so these were not required as Wards fitted them during the reconditioning.

Pipe 8 links the front callipers to the bracket where the flexible pipe connects to the upright.

Pipe 12 comes out of one rear calliper and links to the other one. The spare hole in the left hand calliper is for the bleed nipple.

No Tee's or other fitting should be required.

A couple of photos below may help.

Craig.

Re: Brake pipes

Just one more thing I did.

As I had a pipe 7R spare, I fitted it to where the bleed nipple should have been in the left hand caliper. I then fitted the old Jaguar Tee piece to the chassis just below the caliper and ran the pipe to one of the inlets. I then installed both the spare bleed nipples to the other ports on the Tee.

This makes it a hell of a lot easier to bleed the brakes once the body is fixed in place as the bleed point is easily accessible just behind the chassis members.

Re: Brake pipes

Don't forget to use copper greese on all fittings.

Re: Brake pipes

From other post I think you have a De-dion chassis.

I which case forget the above and ask Dave. He has built plenty of these.

Re: Brake pipes

I'm not sure what number goes where but there are different kits for the De Dion and std. chassis types. You may have the wrong kit.
I always dummy fit the brake pipes to make sure I have them in the right place (Well, I used to when I was learning).:thumb:

Re: Brake pipes

Definitely 8 pipes on the standard chassis.

Sounds like you have been given the wrong pipe kit.
