RE: Gordon Brown stole my tyres!!!!!!!!

I have been contracting for about 7 years now, and have had about 2 months off inbetween contracts in those 7 years. I have had to work in Frankfurt though, as there wasn't much on offer in the UK at the backend of 2001.

< I have had to work in Frankfurt >

Did you ever manage to get to Mainz(half hour south of Frankfurt)?

I was working there in 2000 for 4 months.That was a serious party-town.Not good if you have to work the next morning thoughx(

Just a thought

No, unfortunately not. I was working for Nortel and doing a 4 day week to enable me to fly home each weekend to see the family so I did tend to work long hours.

Used to fly home on a Thursday night and fly back last flight on a Sunday. Bit of a drag but some of the stewardesses were very charming. {-} {-}

Tell me about it
KLM had a deal with the Hilton in Mainz for all their cabin crew to stay for overnight stop-overs. Most of the stewardesses used to frequent the Irish Bar (it was built in an old cellar and they had live music 7 nights a week). It closed at 2:00am but we had lock-ins sometimes till 6:00 or even later at weekends (read lock-in as free drink)

Ah..........The good old days

Just a thought

Contrary Mary

Totally agree Steve, its people like Andy, do-gooders that have brought our country down to the level it is today with there silly opinions, he seems to be a vicious little ba#ted as well, which does not quite go with his outlook on life as he tells it on this site! There are many people who have not got private cover, or simply can't afford it anyway! If there ill what do they do if we were to scrap the NHS; DIE!!!!

The NHS is not free in-case Andy has not noticed, we all pay for it and in addition the employers pay 2/3Rd's to-wards the cost.

Mind you it is to be expected to get a reply like that from a total PLON#ER complete with base ball cap!!! Eric.&V

RE: Gordon Brown stole my tyres!!!!!!!!

Robert,
I have been a contractor (testing software) for 3 years now for Electronic Arts the games company, and recently the contractor laws have changed. Since october, they now state that a contractor must be given the same opportunities and benefits as any full time worker, working in a "broadly similar role" Luckily I was found elligable for this and now get pension / bonus / share options...etc. I have never been allowed to work for more than a 12 month contract without having a forced unpaid 3 week break between contracts, which was a bastard, but now, cos the firm has to give me the same package as a full time worker, they have simply made me full time anyway.
I dont know what you do, but wondered if the law change effected you and if you knew about it.
Cheers
Nick

Nick

I have multiple sources of income, so the Customs & Excise deem me outside of IR35 so I cannot get those benefits.

Swings and roundabouts, you get it one way or another. {-} {-}

RE: Gordon Brown stole my tyres!!!!!!!!

My partners cousin lives in Boston USA, and pays around $100 (sixty odd quid) a month for her medical insurance. This provides the best of everything (including dental care).

It seems that the NHS contributions are considerably higher, and although I can't get NHS dentistry in West Berkshire, and have to pay a £30 monthly premium just to see a dentist, I can't get a rebate from the NHS.

Still they need the money to buy in USA computer systems to centralise all our medical records so that they can then sell the accrued information to the pharmeceutical companies.

And as for the b1@@dy 300% fuel tax. . . .

Wot. . . me bitter, well maybe
