A Car is Born

Happy New Year all

I received a dvd of Mark Evans's A Car is Born over Christmas.

I am about to start a Dax De Dion build next month.

As the dvd is about a sumo build, is it worth watching or will it just be confusing?

About as much use as watching a Carry On film but do it anyway.

Re: A Car is Born

It is definitely worth watching for entertainment value alone.

Hardly any of the build sequence will apply to the Dax but I don't think the series was made to be an instruction manual on how to build a Sumo.

It is more a program to show how easy it can be to get into the kit car scene and also highlights the different areas and cars involved in the market place.

I would like to know how many cars Pilgrim sold because of the show and how many of those got finished?

Craig.

Re: A Car is Born

Funniest thing i've heard all day. I actually bought the DVD under the dillusion it might help me with certain things e.g. routing the electrics, plumbing the engine in, and other tips. It was as useful as a one legged man in an @$$ kicking competion. The whole DVD skipped ALL the bits i would have found useful. It got to bits i could probably do with help on and then cut and magically it was finished and hes dusting his hands and spending 10mins talking tripe while tightening a bolt.

Avoid it because its a pile of pants. Infact don't avoid, it i know of someone selling one that has hardly ever been used :rotfl:

I watched the series on Discovery Home & Leisure and at this point I didn't know Cobra kits existed. Always wanted a Cobra since childhood so the daft vet did me a massive favour letting me know I could fulfill my dream.

As much use as tits on a bull when it comes to being a reference for building a Cobra mind :rotfl: If you need any info on De Dion's, ask Dave Brookes.

Re: A Car is Born

I heard a rumor that it was built and filmed in a shed next door to Pilgrim cars.
Maybe thats why the more difficult bits were skipped as the guys from the factory were probably doing all the hard work.

I think it probably was inspiration for me too. I ordered my Dax soon after it was first shown on Discovery.

Craig.

Graig and Martin

Yes you are correct, I was at Pilgrims workshop when it was being filmed and yes Mark Evans did only bolt a few bits on and the rest was done by Pilgrim.

Must admit it was a good bit of marketing by our beloved Mr Tanner, he must have sold loads more kits, I also think most of the other manufactures also benefited. :thumb: :thumb:

Re: A Car is Born

Agree with what's been said before. Entertainment value only. The funniest parts are the ones in between the cobra build, where they interview some of the.. shall we say....less desirable kit cars and their owners

Re: A Car is Born

I too bought the DVD thinking it would answer all those unanswered questions floating around in your mind........ but i still ordered my Dax and I dont regret it one bit . Just don't make your decision based on the the DVD . The best bit is at the end when he drives it and you hear that magical sound:thumb:
