Rear wind deflector

Just finished a GD and notice a strong small of exhaust gases when driving. Is this usual?

Also I followed an Audi TT Convertable and noticed a rear perspex wind deflector just befind the roll bars - has anyone tried a similar thing with their Cob and does it work and does it stop the exhaust gas smell.

Stu

Did you silicone the exhaust system as I do not get the smell of exhaust.

Regarding the wind deflector, yes I am working on one for my GD which you are more than welcome to have a pattern off. Do you have 2 roll bars, as that is the location points for the deflector.

The mockup I have done works extremely well.

Ronie
I did use silicone on the exhaust but I do have a slight blow where the slots in bend below the exhaust maniford are not quite covered by the manifold - I havnt found a solution to this yet - any ideas - silicone just blows straight out .

With regard to wind deflectors I do have two roll hoops I also have loads of 3mm perspex which we get as manufacturing offcuts if anyone wants any FOC.

Yes a template for deflector would be great

Stu

I am trying to get it sorted with mesh. Will let you know how I get on over the next couple of weeks, hopefully if you are at Stoneleigh, I can bring the template with me.

RE: Rear wind deflector

I had a similar problem with the smell and it seems to down to loose exhaust manifold bolts. Therse have been tightened now and the smell has gone. I have to say that getting to the bolts is a wee bit on the tricky side!

On the deflector side - would be good to get something sorted as the wife is complaining about the buffeting. I think it is part of the cobra culture but if I don't persuade her this year that the cobra is a good way of getting from A to B then it will have to be sold which is not good. Rob, your research and development had better work otherwise I will have to sell and get something practical!!!

I've been told of a guy selling the nets at York market (Elvington w/e?) for securing with black cable ties to the roll bars.

RE: Rear wind deflector

I'm working on a mesh rear deflector too, I have a single full width roll hoop so it should be relative straight forward.
I bought the mesh and some vinyl a while back at Exeter from M&Ms I think.
They sell rear deflectors in mesh for over £50. ;(

I hope to have it finished before Stoneleigh along with my hood and Tonneau. }( }(
